Hello everyone! I am new to this board. I am wondering if anyone subscribes to Cruise Travel Magazine? I am looking to get my mom a subscription for Christmas (who is a Holland cruiser, thus why I am asking here) but I have never been able to find it in our bookstore and it is pricey to subscribe in Canada ($50/6 issues). So I am wondering if anyone can tell me if they like this magazine. My mom is hard to buy for so I don't mind spending the money but I don't want to waste it if it is not a good magazine. We already get Porthole and like that one but I'm out of ideas for anything else! Thanks in advance for your input.

I've subscribed to Cruise Travel for years. I quit getting Porthole because I found it was too full of ads and articles not dealing with cruising back when it first started publishing. I enjoy reading CT and I think your mom will too if she loves to cruise.

:) we have been recieving cruise travel magazine for several years and really enjoy it. Even more than porthole. You can google it and you'll get lots of hits with a wide range of prices for a subscription

thanks for the opinions! The problem with most discounted rates is that they won't ship to Canada. But if it is better than porthole, I'll pony up the cash!

We subscribed to that magazine for years but stopped getting it when it became far fewer pages than it used to be and so many ads. Each issue there seemed to be less to read and little of any interest to us. I don't miss it.
I don't think the magazine is worth the price you say it costs in Canada. I would think twice about it.

I've subscribed to CT for over 20 years. In fact, I've kept almost every past issue. As "sail7seas" stated above, it's dwindling size is becoming a concern for me. There's certainly enough material out there to fill twice as many pages every 2 months. The "letters to the editor" section is most informative; & the annual cruise directory every Jan. is a wonderful resource for cruise buffs. But sadly, the value for the dollar is becoming less & less.

I have subscribed for many years also. My only concern is they seem to go overboard in praise for all ships and lines and become cheerleaders. Very little objective reporting of what is good and what is not so good on ships in my opinion. We all know that even on great ships not everything is perfect.

Too bad they don't have an 'online' edition. Then subscribing from outside the US wouldn't cost any more.

Why pay for reading about some peoples complaints, when it can be done for free right here ?? :D
But all kidding aside, CT is beyond it's glory days ... it ain't what it used to be.
I'd stick with Porthole.

thanks everyone. Mom doesn't use the internet much so she prefers the paper version. I think perhaps I will give it a one year trial (she is really hard to buy for) and if she doesn't like it then I will not renew it. Thanks again.

We've enjoyed Cruise Travel magazine for years.
Didn't care for Porthole magazine - too "glitzy" for our tastes.

You can get slightly discounted magazine subscriptions, including Cruise Travel, on Amazon dot com.... have you looked there?

thank you but they won't send to Canada--sigh...
seems so bizarre to me as I live right on the border and can be in Detroit in 15 minutes...

Exactly what I was going to ask. If she uses the Internet she will be way ahead of many stories in CT. I still subscribe and have since the 1980's. The main reason I keep my subscription is because of the articles from a couple of writers who are ocean liner and cruise ship experts. Their articles on old ships and the history of the industry as well as out of the way ports or non-mainstream ships keeps me loyal.

Have you tried Chapters? They have it (and Porthole) in our local Chapters in Brampton. Good Luck!

Ours is not as big as some. I have looked repeatedly at our Chapters without success. Maybe I'll have to make a road trip :)

I agree. I don't plan on renewing my subscription so I was surprised at the very positive posts before yours.

We have subscribed to Cruise Travel Magazine for over 30 years (since issue #2 as I recall) and have thoroughly enjoyed it! Naturally some issues are more interesting than others but we still look forward to it arriving each month and read it cover to cover (it is not a thick magazine!)

And you can sit in Chapters & read their magazines, (without having to purchase them)!;)
By the way, magazine subscriptions (in Ontario), are subject to the beloved 13% HST!

and find them less informative than Travel and Leisure or Conde Nast Travel. They seem more consumer oriented that Porthole or Cruise Travel as they are fluff pieces. I do like the free Mariner mag.

I had a complimentary subscription to Travel and Leisure and found it to be a total waste of paper. At least CT is about a product I use frequently and I have never found their articles to be "fluff pieces".

Thank you but once again, Amazon will NOT ship magazines to Canada.
