Hi, I had heard that quite a large number of people are in the process of suing Thomson in relation to the poor standards they had experienced on board the Thomson Dream. I believe a number of you are using a law firm on a 'no win no fee' basis. I just wondered if how you are getting on, I am suing them seperately myself and I just wondered what progress you have made. If anyone's interested, I will let you know whether I succeed. Good luck to you all though! I went on a P&O Cruise recently, it was fantastic. I have been on several Thomson cruise ships in the past but the P&O experience is far superior and much better value for money.

I read on one of the other cruise forums that some people had started a class action using a "no win, no fee" firm of lawyers but the thread seems to have died so I have no idea what happened.

The vast majority of people who have sailed on the Dream, myself included, had a great time but I'd be interested to know from those that didn't whether or not you got any money back.

Kitchens whicg P&O ship did you cruise with ?? we've been real fans of Thomson Destiny but have decided to give the Ventura a go next summer (just to try one of the bigger ships) - we couldn't fault the Destiny for customer service and entertainment so a bit concerned that we may have too high expectations for similar service on the Ventura

I have been on Thomson Spirit and P&O Ventura, as you can see if you click on to my photo link after my signature.
Both Thomson & P&O are very good for service and entertainment, because of the size of Ventura, you have more variety of entertainment and venues. For example the theatre group show in the main theatre is performed 3 times per night. The 9pm performance is often standing room only, unless you get there early.
The service is first class on P&O, although I would say the waiters are more friendly with Thomson's, you still get the happy birthday greeting's at the dinning table.
Also on P&O you get two formal nights per week as opposed to one on Thomson's, and one of the nights on P&O is called black & white night, which is probably the most formal of the week. A lot of the men on this night dress in white tux's, black shirts etc. The women also dress in black & white. The captn's gala night is also formal.
If you enjoyed Destiny, you will certainly enjoy Ventura. :)

Hi, thanks for responding. The P&O Ventura was absolutely superb. The ship is far superior to all the Thomson fleet, but then again the Thomson ships are quite old. We loved everything about the Ventura, its a big ship but you soon get your bearings. We are going on it again next year we enjoyed it so much. The quality of the food, the ship itself, the entertainment etc is far superior to what Thomson's offer. The only element I would say Thomson's have advantage on is the staff, who are slightly more friendly, but that's all. I have been fortunate to go on about 8 Thomson cruises over the last few years and went on the P&O in September and loved it - I won't be going back to Thomson's, especially not with the way they have treated me in relation the Dream experience, not a chance. Once you have experience P&O, I doubt few people would go back to Thomson, it just doesnt compare and the cost of the holiday was cheaper too.

Well I don't agree that P and O are superior to Thomson...their ships may be more modern but overall we much prefer Thomson having done 6 cruises with them, 2 with P and O (and one booked), and also Celebrity, RCI, Costa, Princess....Thomson stand up to them all very well...we think the entertainment and daytime activities on Thomson ships is far better than any other cruiseline we have been on...the staff are superb and food is good (at the least equal to P and O but sometimes better!)
You have had a bad experience with Thomson and it is probably colouring your opinion a bit...but the majority of people don't have a bad experience with them !!

Irrespective of others experiences of the Dream and not judging those experiences (except to say that we had a great time on the Dream) I hope the no win no fee legal firms lose and get really stung. They are parasites.

Couldn't agree more. They are the reason we live in a compensation culture nowadays with people seeking to sue at every opportunity.

Thanks for your responses. I am sure the majority of people who are taking legal action against Thomson are relatively genuine. My comments about P&O being superior were not coloured by my experience on the Thomson, I am quite well aware what the Thomson brand offers, having cruised with them on 8 occasions. Its personal preference, whilst I have always had a great time with Thomson in the past, I don't think the Dream lived up to Thomson's own initial expectations either. Happy cruising, whatever you sail on ....

What a ridiculous comment! When hardworling people pay good money for a deserved holiday they deserve good service and not to be ripped off. Sometimes it is hard to take on big firms and no win no fee is the best option for the small fry customer. How dare you suggest customers who have had a spoilt holiday should not fight for compensation. Actually it is in future customers inerests that this happens.

Thanks for your response 'finngriff'. That's why I posted my original comment to try and find out what success they had. I completely agree, not everyone can afford solicitors fees and the 'no win, no fee' route is sometimes the only option. I hope they all win and it will teach Thomson a lesson. I am one of the small fry but I am trying to fight them on my own, I will let you know how I get on if anyone is interested. I see the Dream is still having problems even now!

It's up to you but in my experiences of dealing with the legal profession (I am an accountant) no win, no fee lawyers give far from good service and are in it for one person - themselves. If you think you have a genuine case for compensation, why wouldn't you go to a reputable solicitor? After all, if you are succesful, the chances are you will be awarded costs.
