Big upgrade?

Hi - I just found out that I was upgraded from Guar HH obstructed view cabin to a VA Navigation Deck Deluxe Verandah Ocean-view on the Oosterdam. It is an aft cabin. Is this a good upgrade? Is it good to be in the back of the ship? I'm not really an experienced cruiser. Thanks!

I have i guarantee hh for saturday sailing on the oosterdam hope i get that same upgrade...still no stateroom showing on my reservation

I'd say that's a huge upgrade if it was an unpaid upgrade. It is very unusual to go up that much.

I am also pretty new to the forums so am unaware of "trolls". I wanted to post that my wife and I are booked on Oosterdam June 19 in one of those rear facing veranda cabins on the upper prominade deck. We didn't get any upgrade offers and don't know how that happens. But we paid a discounted fare because we are trading my wifes week of timeshare for the cruise. Don't think any upgrade would be as special as the rear facing cabin. Does anyone have an opinion on that?

Danemom - let me know what you get. I was very surprised to get such an upgrade, but not complaining. Just got the room assignment today.

I would say that is an excellent upgrade. Many people enjoy those aft cabins and watching the wake. You are now also at the food end of the ship. Do enjoy your wonderful cabin an the beautiful Oosterdam. Have a great cruise.:D

No I didn't pay for it. I did have some irritation and trouble with my initial booking though and almost canceled so perhaps this is to make up for it.

I am going to totally disagree with all that are discrediting this new poster.
If they are about to cruise very soon then it very likely they got the VA. In December 2008 I was booked for the week prior to Christmas then about 5 days before we left we got the bright idea that we wanted to go Christmas week. All that was available was HH Obstructed Guarantees. When we boarded the ship for the first week we were still showing as a Guarantee but about a day into the first week we were assigned an aft VA cabin on deck 8.

Another example I have a client that booked a H Guarantee for a sailing going this coming weekend. In going thru my emails today since I just returned from a cruise I found he was assigned a VA category also on Deck 8 toward the aft.

Just so you understand what often happens, VA cabins are always quite pricy and in 99% of most sailings you can purchase a Guarantee SZ or SY cabin for less than picking your cabin in a VA category. So let's see...... would you spend more for a VA with far less cabin space and smaller balcony or would you take the lower price knowing you will have a cabin that is one and a half times the size with double sink bathroom. Yeah kind of a No Brainer so what happens HAL ends up with a whole lot of VA cabins left over and if they sold a whole bunch of HH categories and lots of other people took the cabin assignment for the other OV cabins all they really have left over is VA cabins and guess what many who book those HH cabins do get a great upgrade.

So I definitely do not think this person is a troll at all and actually want to Congratulate them:)

I have been working on manifesting a wonderful upgrade to celebrate our 43rd aniversary next week, and we would have been perfectly happy looking out at the lifeboat...there are no bad cabins...no bad cruises, but this morning I say thank you Hal..see you saturday

Yes definitely come to the Web Cam Banner Wave a few minutes before three on Deck 5 all the way forward. I will be in contact with Marcella the hotel mananger to make sure that the doore will definitely be open to go out to do the wave.

danemom and TravelerGuy88: Have a great cruise. Those are wonderful upgrades. I have only been on the balconies of the aft cabins for sailaway parties, but I thought the views of the wake were terrific.
