Just got back from a 10 day cruise on the Voyager and found the following changes in the casino:
No $5 blackjack tables ever
No blackjack tournament ever
No Texas hold 'em game or tournament ever
You can piggyback a bet on a hot blackjack player so long as the total bet in the square is $200 or less.

Bob: did you notice any other changes in the casino concerning the slot and video poker machines? I ask because I would assume that whatever changes were made on Voyager would also be changed on Mariner given that a new casino company took over operations.

Is this the same casino operator that's on Oceania? Rules are different than Vegas too

Never went near the slot machines or the poker machines-so I can't answer the question. Besides smoking was allowed at the machines so I never even looked at them. Sorry

Pretty annoying if no $5blackjack tables, my husband likes blackjack, but he won't play at tables higher than $5, guess he will save some money! ;)

There were a number of black jack players who did not play at all on this trip because the $10 minimum was too high. We tried to talk the pit boss/casino manager into setting up a $5 table to see if it brought in additional players but he declined. There was a group of about 7 or 8 regulars and a few occasional players but the casino seemed less crowded than on other cruises where there were $5 tables and Texas hold'em. I managed to walk off the ship up a fair amount but playing at $10 makes me nervous (esp the hand where I ended up with four deuces, split each of them and then doubled one that became an 11- I won but...)

Hi Bob,
The casino on Mariner is similar but not entirely the same. There is no $5 blackjack but there was a blackjack tournament that I happened to win. :D There was a table with a Texas Hold 'Em game similar to what we've seen in Vegas. I'll check on the piggyback bet tonight.

cruzndiz,
I don't play the slots but I'll ask the casino manager about any changes.

Kathy,
I think the casino operator is also the operator on Oceania. The blackjack rules seem to be the same as with the previous operator. The rules are generally the same as Las Vegas except there is no surrender (a slight disadvantage for players) and the dealer stands on all 17s (a distinct advantage for players).

Thanks Dave, I didn't realize you were on Mariner right now.... I've been tracking "your"/soon to be "my" ship :D
Someone said they allowed smoking AT the machines?? That would be different, last time I was there if you wanted a cigarette you had to go sit at the bar

I think the rules also only allowed splitting Aces and Eights. And no double down on nines...
Congratulations on winning the tournement!

We will miss the Texas Hold'em tournaments. It's too bad about increasing Blackjack minimum to $10. too....sounds like they're shooting themself in the foot as poker tournaments and blackjack were big draws on the cruises we've taken.
P.S. We've been on longer cruises where we made our own private poker games on afternoon seadays in La Veranda after they close at lunch. Maybe this is no longer allowed either.

There was no limit on splitting pairs. It was not limited to aces and eights.

As Bob mentioned, you can split any pair. In addition, you can resplit any pair, other than aces, twice. You can also double down on any two cards.

cruzndiz,
The Mariner is different than the Voyager regarding smoking in the casino. On the Mariner, you can only smoke at the casino bar.

I never saw a bar in Voyager's Casino. I think that is why you could smoke by the 3 rows of machines.
