Yes, to-day the Oosterdam is at the "other" pier because the Carnival Spirit is also in port and as she is bigger she gets the preffered pier and the Oosterdam has to do with what can best be described as an abandoned cargo pier with a dramatically undersized tent as terminal. :(

You'd think San Diego would want to court the cruise business and it's associated revenue by building a decent facility to handle more than one ship plus complement of passengers. I haven't been in the terminal, but always wondered if there was enough room in there to check in both ships and then have the tent for a place to wait until embarkation is called.

someone once posted a link to where you could see most all ports, and the names of ships and dates on who would be there. it was posted to someone wanting to know how many ships would be in port at various stops along the way to judge the crowds - I suppose that link would give us what will be in SD pier and when.....I'm still searching for it, had thought I'd bookmarked it......

We drove down to the pier this morning and the Spirit is docked in the main terminal and the O is on the other side. The Spirit comes in every 8 days and the O every Saturday. I have seen as many as four ships in port here. They use the ferry docks. The Statendam was in port yesterday. They have been talking about redoing the terminals but it hasn't happened yet. Once inside the main terminal, it is actually quite organized. I remember the first time we sailed from SD it was such a mess with the line snaking around and around the terminal.

I believe this is the link (http://www.cruisecal.com/dnn/) you want. You can enter the name of the port and date and it will show you what's scheduled in that day.

You're right. San Diego ought to be building a state of the art cruise facility. But the City of San Diego is in a horrible financial predicament as the result of pension benefits granted when the stock market was soaring. When the market tanked so did San Diego's finances, big time. The cruise terminal is technically owned by the Port District but, as best I understand it, they can't build without the city's financial contributions. The feds are investigating if there was any criminal activity in the financial goings on that resulted in the massive debt. One of the east coast papers called San Diego, Enron on the Pacific (sigh)

That's a really cool web site. No other ship will be in SAN with us on the 26th! :)

When our shuttle driver was taking us from the Embassy Suites to the sirport in November, he mentioned that just a few days before we were there, there was an RCI ship and a Carnival ship in at the same time and that it wa a real zoo at the pier.
It has been like that for 3 - 4 years (on some days) that I know of.
