 Just booked "O" 12/3/05, Mexico from San Diego. Arriving San Diego day of cruise and would like information as far as distance and timeframe from airport to ship.
Thinking of possibly a Limo. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Take a taxi. The airport is about a five minute ride. You can see the cruise terminal from the airport and vice-versa

Definitely take a cab. Like the previous poster said, you can see the ship from the airport and it is only about 5 minutes. The cab fare should be less than $10 (they tag on some airport fee otherwise it would be about $5). Once you pick up your luggage, go outside and cross the street and in the middle area are where the cabs are and they are lined up. Word of caution: I find the SD cab drivers to be extremely rude sometimes because you aren't going far enough and they aren't getting a big enough fare. Ignore them and tip them accordingly. Once you are out of the airport, they should not go off the street you are on: Harbor Drive. It is a straight shot.

If you come in at terminal one (United, Southwest and a couple of other airlines) you have to exit the baggage area, walk a few yards to your right and go up the escalator, walk in a open passageway above the traffic, take a down escalator, turn right at the base and go to the second island to get a cab.) At Terminal Two (American and many others) the previously posted directions work just fine. I take the cabs often from the airport to downtown and the drivers have never been rude. They love cruise ship departure days because there are lots of pickups at the pier in the AM and lots of runs to the pier in the PM

I wholeheardedly agree with the previous post about the cabbies in San Diego. They definitely do not like a short trip such as from airport to the pier.
They sometimes wait 2-3 hours in line for a fare. Just make sure that you let them know, and tip accordingly. I would suggest at least $10.

DH and I couldn't make up our minds about whether we would take a cab with my parents or spend extra for a limo. After reading the above with all the luggage dragging and finding a grumpy cab driver, I think we will hire a limo.
The services we have looked into all have the "Meet and Greet" and get your luggage for you.

I have sailed out of San Diego and did not find the cab drivers to be grumpy.
No matter what airport you fly into there is always the issue of hauling luggage out of the airport. We either get a porter or a cart.

We use cabs in San Diego.
DH puts luggage on cart and away we go.
As you land or take off from the airport, the runway runs parallel to the harbor where the ships come in.
Since you are arriving on the same day as you sail, you might even see your ship docked.

Thanks all for the wonderful recommendations. I guess it depends on much a limo is. Only five minutes even with a "Grumpy" cabby shouldn't be that bad.
Thanks again,
Bill

I travel to San Diego 2 or 3 times a year and never have encountered a cabbie who didn't like making the trip (or at least showed it). Downtown hotels are just as close to the airport as the cruise port is, so there's really no logic in a cabby thinking he should get a longer trip. I imagine most cab rides from the airport are in the $10 range.

Did it last week on the 29 Jan "O" cruise we used the HAL Bus. It took us longer to get off the plane and get to baggage claim than it took to get from the Airport to our room key..Landed at 11:57AM in our Suite at 12:49!!!! More later
