We are booked on the May 25th, 2011 cruise on the Volendam to Alaska.
This board is a great source of info! Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to help others.
I have a couple questions I can't seem to find answers to.
We have OV cabins Main deck aft. The deck plan shows a small deck on the aft of the ship on the Main deck, but I can't tell if the space between G2711/G2715 and G2702/G2706 are doorways leading to this deck. Is it a public deck and are there chairs out there? Anyone have pictures of this space?
My slightly claustrophobic sister would love to know if fresh air is so close to the cabin. Too bad we can't afford verandah cabins, but this would be the next best thing.
I see there are a lot of these 'spaces' between cabins on the deck plans that look like they lead to outside areas. Anyone know where to find more detailed deck plans that show where doorways are , and what some of the other 'blank' spaces are?
It would also help hubby to plan the shortest routes to get places. He has only been walking recently after years in a wheelchair so his endurance is poor.
Any help is appreciated.

Yes, there are doors at the ends of the hallways that lead out to a small 'public' deck. There are no chairs out there, but the stairs in the middle go up to the Lower Promenade Deck.

Not many people go out on that deck. It is very quiet, and there isn't any deck chairs. We found it great to go from our cabin to the back deck to get some fresh air.

Sounds like a great place to get fresh air or take a quick peek outside in the morning.
So if we went up the stairs to the lower veranda deck, are there chairs on the aft part of that deck?

There is no Lower Verandah Deck. However, I can tell you this - there are no chairs along the stern section of: the Lower Promenade Deck or the 'public' (fore or aft) parts of the Verandah Deck. Chairs - both bench and lounge type - are on both sides of the Lower Promenade Deck.

Sorry to correct you but there are lounge type chairs right across the stern. We got off the Volendam 17/12/10 and there were lounge chairs all around the Lower Promenade deck (the one above the Main deck). Bench seats available too. At the beginning of the cruise not many people used those lounges but towards the end, about half were being used for napping and reading. Nice quite area.
We had room 2715. We walked out our door, turned left and went about 20 steps or so out 2 doors onto the small deck. Nice to look out from, fresh air etc, but no seats and it can be noisy.
Loved that room except when we were in port - the crew were always working under our room when we were in port, alot of rattle and humming so hard to take a nap sometimes but it was a really nice, spacious room.
Have fun!

This is taken from one side of the stern or aft to the other, on the Lower Promenade Deck. You can see lounge chairs and some bench seats on the right. This is similar along both sides of the ship as well.

Oops... sorry, I could have sworn there were no chairs along the stern part of Lower Promenade - but there's the picture.
