Those who have sailed recently, can you advise of a good, clean, moderately priced hotel near the FLL Port for the night before we sail?
We don't want to be too far away from the Port or the airport! Thank you!:)

We recently stayed at the Embassy Suites on 17th Street and at the Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Marina. Both are about 10 minutes from the airport, and 5-10 minutes from the port. If you'll look at the posts under North American Homeports-Florida Departures, there are tons of posts re: hotels.

Embassy Suites - 17th. Street! It is located just a ten minute drive from both the airport & port!:) It includes a complimentary Manager's Cocktail from 5:30 to 7:30 as well as a complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast served in the Atrium!:) Conveniently, it is located in front of "Harbor Shops Plaza", on Cordova Road, in which, among other stores, is located a "Total Wine & More" store!:)

We just stayed at the Homewood Suites on Griffin Rd earlier this month. They will pick you up at the airport and also will take you to the port. Nice place and good breakfast.

We have stayed at the Embassy Suites many, many times both pre and post cruise. Convenient to the airport and the cruise terminal.

The restaurant there -- E-Spot is great. But there are also many restaurants in the Harbor Shop Plaza.

Most nights they are now having the Manager's Reception in E-Spot.

I got the Riverside hotel on Las Olas on Priceline for $75 a night (mid January) It's a great price, and near shopping, etc, but does not have transportation. I figured we could get a taxi for what we are saving for a couple of rooms for several nights, and there is stuff to do and eating within walking distance, including the water taxi... Smoke free hotel, too!:D

We just got back from several nights at the Riverside after our cruise. Our favorite FLL hotel, especially in the Tower with a balcony. So much to see and do on Las Olas.

Has anyone stayed at the Westin Diplomat Golf Resort? It's the sister property to the big beach resort and is about a mile or so inland from the Westin Diplomat Beach Resort.

This is our first cruise from FLL and we chose this hotel. Hope it is okay with services/proximity to the port, etc.

Any advice or observations would be apprecited!

I can't recommend the Hyatt Airport North highly enough. We stayed there a few weeks ago, I believe we paid $70 on Hotwire for it. Shuttle to port starts at 10:30, very comfortable rooms, very close to Publix, Total Wine, Duffy's sports bar (excellent dinner and 2/1 happy hour!!!). Airport shuttle. Very pleased with this hotel and will definitely stay there again.

Hyatt Summerfield Suites is a great place to stay pre-cruise. They offer free airport shuttle and if you book under Port Everglades includes shuttle to port. Have wine and beer in evening along with some tasty food.

Depending on your budget, there are several Hilton family of hotels properties with rates for March 31st from $135 to over $200.

The Marriott family of hotels starts at $139 and goes up from there.

We're staying at the Doubletree Suites hotel before our cruise, but are using frequent stay points from Hilton.

I can send you a facebook, and tell you how it was, where we ate, etc, so when you and Fred get there, you know the scoop! I am looking forward to it, as the location should be fun! Although I also like the hotels where you can see the ships sailing in, when I'm going to be there for a few days, I like a place where I can get out and walk a bit, without hopping in a car.

Hyatt airport north and this year at Extendastay. Both had similar size rooms and were under $100 but the Hyatt had a lot more to offer . Both are close to each other near Harbour shops.

I can recommend Hyatt Place off North 17th street as well. But we are trying to find hotels for March 19th and WOW the prices are SKY HIGH. I have tried every possible web site to find at least a 3.5 star or higher for closer to $100 a night. But finding only a couple closer to the $200 a night and almost all over :( This will be the highest we have paid for a hotel in FLL. I sure wish I could get the great rate I had in September for the Hyatt Pier 66 Tower room. But I know that prices for September are always low and March is Peak Season.

My vote is for the Hyatt Place Airport North in Fort Lauerdale. We have stayed there 2 times, both this December and last December.

As others have mentioned it is walking distance to Publix, Total Wine and lots of other shops and restaurants and bars. Hyatt Place provides a free shuttle that will pick you up from the airport and will take you to the cruise port starting at 10:30 am. Be sure to schedule a shuttle ride to the port, if you plan on using it, when you check in.

The front desk staff is very kind and accommodating as well as the shuttle driver. The only issue that I have with this hotel is that the air conditioner can be a bit loud at times. Having said that, there are way too many positives to this hotel to let one negative affect my stay or choice of hotel. I will stay there again next time our cruise leaves out of Fort Lauderdale.

That's great Lisa. I've been looking for a FLL hotel for March 17, leaving on the Noordam March 18th- I'm going to look at hotwire again. Priceline I had bid up to $132- couldn't see going higher than that. Hotel websites are ranging $150-$250.

Other than wait a few more weeks and keep checking every day. I have to say that the 3 Star Los Olas Downtown was running $189 for the longest time for my night on the 19th of March, then about two weeks ago it went to $149 I still waited. Today shortly after I was posting on here I get an email saying there was a price drop for my night. I jumped and shockingly it was the $109. That is exactly what I paid for our Crown Princess cruise this past January when I was trying to buy it the end of October 2009.

It is crazy because Hotels.com wants $189 plus tax for the Hyatt Place North. Even with my contacts thru work I cannot even come close to the $109 price.

I wish you luck, hopefully they will drop in the next few weeks.:)

Springhill Suites FLL Airport, Dania Beach is a good one. I hesitate to tell people so they don't change their policy. You get free transport to the port, free parking for the length of the cruise and of course free breakfast. They will pick you up after the cruise for about $8 pp which is cheaper than a cab and convenient.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and they have a stay and park option. We just booked the room for $84 and decided to figure out the car later. I never got around to figuring out a car option other than parking at the port before the cruise.

So when I checked in I asked about the parking option and they gave it to us for free. Not sure why but was very happy.

This Hampton Inn also offered a free beer and wine Happy Hour with food and the normal free breakfast. The room was bigger than most and had a fridge and microwave. Also free WiFi that was faster than most hotels.

Haven't stayed there but had breakfast there and it was good and reasonable too. It is in a good location. Near the beach and I belive the water taxi stop is not too far away.

We have stayed at the Renaissance on 17th sta couple of times and will be there in Feb. Paid about $160 + Tax from Priceline. Restaurant is pricey and the bar very pricey.

Can walk to other good restaurants in the area.

We have also stayed at the Riverside a few times is it is in a nice location. A lower price there usually means a room in the older section. Friends of ours did not like it and moved up to a tower room. They told them that those rooms go to the Expedia, Travelcity, etc. customers.

If you stay at the Riverside and take a taxi to the port, make sure he uses Rt 1 to 17th St the the other port accesses. We had a drive head down Las Olas toward the beach and over the inter-coastal. He then heads south to the 17th St Bridge. That means you have a good chance of hitting at least one bridge opening so you sit and wait while the meter runs. Also, the last time I was there the 17th Bridge was stuck open for over an hour. I thought of all those people in taxis waiting on the other side.

For an enjoyable stay on Las Olas Blvd we would recommend The Riverside. We arrived on New Year's Eve and depart tomorrow for our Eurodam cruise. The location of the hotel was great for us - easy access to stores, restaurants etc. We are in a tower room which is very comfortable with a large bathroom and generous size balcony overlooking Las Olas with the ocean in the distance. The staff here are wonderful and helpful and we would definitely stay here again for a pre or post cruise stay.

We used to be diehard Embassy Suite fans, but the price for President's Week just got out of hand. Last year, we tried the Renaissance on 17th Street and were very pleased with the room and service. It is right across the parking lot from the Bimini Boatyard which is a nice place to have dinner and across the street from a CVS. There is a lso a French bakery nearby.

Yes you do bid on a nameless hotel. However, I matched up their amenities with the listing on hotwire, and also read about it on CC, so I was confident I was getting the Hyatt Place. It's listed under Las Olas - Downtown - Port Everglades area, and includes a shuttle icon. When I look that up right now, I only see one with a shuttle icon for $109. per night.

Thank you for the tips from the Riverside, we are staying there shortly.
They have been very nice on the phone, and allowed me to reserve King beds, and I like the fact that they are smoke free. They told me that they have a "block" of rooms in the old section that are "Priceline" reserved. I'll wait to see my room before I decide if I need to upgrade. Hopefully, it will still be clean, even if it's in the older section, and we got a great price, so really can't complain.
Any advice on eating venues within walking distance, esp. breakfast? I think we'll have a rental car, so we can probably venture farther afield for dinner...Thanks in advance for suggestions!

Yes For a very large fee. I forget how much but it was about double per person of what you will pay by taxi. They discourage people from taking a taxi because I am sure the hotel gets a kick back from the van service they provide at the hotel. Same is true for Hyatt Pier 66. I about choked with the price they charged us for the 5 minute ride to the pier.

I've stayed there twice on one trip, pre and post cruise, several years back.
Both times the rooms were disgusting from the cigarette smoke and the coverup spray that I had to open the windows and doors to get some fresh air in the place.

Since then, I've been staying at the Courtyard Marriot on the Beach...
...however this next time our group is at the Atlantic Hotel just up the coast - I've been able to get a nice suite for two nights using credit card points! :)

A taxi ride from any of the 17th St hotels will only be about $10-12 for 1, 2, 3, or 4 passengers. That's less than a shuttle.

A bell hop at the hotel where we stayed told us a cab was a better bargain.

BTW...Any taxi ride beginning at the airport carries a $2 surcharge. So a cab ride to the airport from the port is always cheaper than from the airport.

This is a property which used to be a Marriott. As it happens, we are staying there pre-cruise in 13 days, on Hilton points. When we stayed before, we had a balcony room facing south toward the cruise ships. We could see them sailing out on a Saturday, one after another, seemingly close to us. This property has a watertaxi stop. It's a marina with a pool, not on a beach. We had two very pleasant stays during Marriott days and expect the same in two weeks. I have heard that there are lesser rooms, but we stayed in the main tower both times and it was very fine.

I got the Westin Diplomat Beach resort this year from priceline for 89 dollars. I wanted the Riverside again, but it didn't come up in the auction. When you factor in the tax and cab fare back and forth, it should run 140>150 dollars with the cab fares from the airport and to the cruise port factored in.

I loved the riverside. It's so different than the "beach" hotels in FLL.
The location on Las Olas makes it a great place to go out and stroll at night.

Don't eat in the hotel, go out and eat in one of the places on Las Olas. Take advantage of the great restaurants in that area, you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the reply on the westin. We will only be there one night, so I think it should work out great.

We don't want to be too far away from the Port or the airport! Thank you!:)

To the OP:
I have now used priceline for a one night stay before a cruise out of FLL for the past 5 years and have been VERY happy with the results.
Make sure you bid correctly and you should do very well.

Make sure you start with the highest star level at a price that your willing to pay, then expand your bidding from there.( I usually bid $ 89 for 4 star and have been happy with the results) Bid 4 star near the airport at the start and see what you get. If it's rejected, it will ask you to expand your search or raise your bid. It's really very simple.
Good Luck.

It's located just south of the airport. Free shuttle to and from. In spite of its relative closeness to the airport, we had a pleasant night's sleep. Very quiet. The airport and the hotel are both located within the same municipality called Dania. Incidentally, the region itself has a very interesting socio/agricultural historical background that I recommend checking out on the web.

I was having no luck via Priceline at a Star rating and price point at which I was comfortable. We usually cruise in January and get great deals via Priceline. This year we are cruising in March- spring break time, high season in Florida.

Based on what I read on this board, I tried Hotwire and was very pleased.

March 17 Pre cruise at Springhill Suites Airport- 3 Stars for $69 with tax/fees- total 82.47. We did use priceline and got a full sized car for $40

March 28 Post cruise at Hyatt Place Airport North 3 Stars for $109 with tax/fees- total $127.90

Thanks for all of your help- Kathy:)

Hyatt Summerfield Suites is a great place to stay pre-cruise. They offer free airport shuttle and if you book under Port Everglades includes shuttle to port. Have wine and beer in evening along with some tasty food.

What do you mean "if you book under Port Everglades"?

We are booked here for April pre-sailing. Is this a special package you're referring to?

Thanks!!

We fly out of Buffalo on Thursday for our Friday Westerdam Cruise.
I had originally booked a room for Thursday night at the FLL Fairfield Inn using Marriott points.
I subsequently read somewhere on Cruise Critic that someone got a room in an airport-area Hilton off Priceline for $50.
It hurts to cash so many points for one night if you can get a room so cheap so I gave Priceline a whirl. I was a little worried but a good friend uses it all the time and he walked me through it.
I tried bids of $50 and $55 (for 3.5 stars and higher) and was unsuccessful however, my $60 bid worked and we got a room at the Hyatt Place very close to the cruise port - and a stone-throw from Total Wines where I will be doing a bit of damage.
So, I'll save my points for something bigger.
Another reason why Cruise Critic is so great!

Interestingly enough, we had a rental car for three days so did a bit of driving around precruise...and I don't recall seeing a Target anywhere...I would have spotted it as I love Target! I'm sure there was one in an outlying area...we just didn't happen to pass it.

But definitely not near Embassy Suites. We frequent that area during our prestay: Total Wine, CVS, a pedicure/manicure, lunch, etc.

Thanks Shelia, We don't have one near where I live and have to drive 75 miles to shop at one. I will survive.

Go to the Target website (target dot com) and find stores in FL - there are several - pick one to get the address. Then go to the Embassy Suites to get that address. Finally go to google maps (or any "Maps") and get directions from one place to the other. The one I checked out was 6 miles away.

Excellent move, you won't regret it. It's a perfect location and the Total Wine..................why I was like a kid in a candy store. Have a great time fellow Ontarians. Duffy's for dinner was great too, along with their 2 for 1 happy hour beforehand!

We must booked the Sleep Inn at Dania Beach for $89 including tax and free shuttle from the airport and to the pier - that is a senior rate, however.

I just booked via Priceline, for March 26th, the Fort Lauderdale Airport Hilton at a bid of $85 and a total of about $102.88. It saves a bunch of Hilton points that I can use down the road on a more costly hotel reservation. I had to do 3-stars, widen my search area a bit, but it works pretty well. The hotel has complimentary airport shuttle service, but it is not clear if they also have port service.
