We were recently on the Maasdam which left Norfolk, Va 1/16/05 for an 11 day southern caribbean cruise. The seas were rough both going and coming off the US East Coast. However on the trip back something strange happened around 9:10 pm Wednesday evening January 26. We were in the dinning room (lower level) when a BIG BANG occurred. It sounded like either something hit the ship or the ship hit something? Many screams and broken dishes along with spilled drinks and food on people. We never received an explanation as to what happened? Possibly a large wave hit the ship? Was anyone else on this sailing and did you experence the event? Has anyone heard what happened?
This was my 39th cruise and I have never experenced anything like this event.
