I am about to book a cruise to Eastern Caribbean on one of these ships. I hate booking guarantees but the price to pick a cabin is not cheap. Right now both cruises I am considering is a category VH. I read old posts regarding this category and it doesn't sound like a good one:confused: What's the deal with the steel rail/wall on the balcony? I also read that typically 10 - 18 days out you will probably get assigned and it will be to a different category - usually better. Can you "lock it in" if you like your assignment (you can do that on other lines). Have you experienced being reassigned more than once if you don't lock in? Decisions, decisions. But once I'm booked...aahhhhh....:)

The wood rail atop the steel wall section is right about eye level when you are seated, so you can't see anything but sky, far horizons, or nearby mountains.
You can't lock in an assignment, nor can you get it changed if you don't like it (other than buying your way up). Only once in eight guarantees were we "reassigned". On the Nieuw Amsterdam we booked and paid for an H, were first assigned a C (at 11 days out) and then re-assigned to a deck 8 V at three days out. :D

Board regular Boytjie has previous posted a picture that shows the difference in the railings:

Visuals are so helpful. Now I see what you mean! From what I read most people get moved out of this category. Guess I can cross my fingers or put lots and lots of pillows on the chair to elevate me:cool:

Every time I have had a guarantee that have put me over a bar (Princess) so they make me sooo nervous.
