Ed you're right about Chops being so much better than anything in the dining room and with so many folks interested in going I think we are going to have to decide on a night and time before we board. Do we want to do it on a sea day or a port day? That will narrow down the choices of nights.

I've been following Radio's posts and pics on his "Live from Enchantment" thread and it has been fun looking at all the pics of the ship and ports. Can't wait to be there myself:D!

Ed if we did that it would have to be in the buffet. The dining room doesn't open until 8 a.m. and since our tour starts at 8:45 that won't give us enough time to eat there. We'll probably start making our way off the ship around 8:30 to look for our tour guide on the dock.

Rainy cold day forcast for us today. So I will sit down and get our Set Sail passess completed and printed!

This was the first time that I did the set sail past! Travel agent must have did the ones for my last two cruises, because all I did was present my documents and that was that. Didn't know it would be so involved. But I did get it done, hopefully it's right because it said that I completed it.:o

Stella did you print out your Set Sail pass so you will have it to take with you?

I see your first cruises were in 2003 and 2006-I don't think any of this stuff was on the computer back then so that's probably why you haven't had to fill it out.

Yes, I did print it out, and as I recall from the past cruises I took, I didn't have to give them a set sail pass so you are probably right, this is something new we have to do.

Last time we just checked the dinner choices in the morning and if it wasn't anything great, we made reservations. This is a big group for spontaneous dining. Maybe we when get onboard we can ask someone in the dining room for a peek at the menus. Although Chops is always better than anything they have anyway.
You're right Ed...and it worked great for us.

I just checked Cruise Fellows and according to them Carnival Victory will be in Port with us in St. Thomas, and Solstice and NCL Sun will be in port with us in San Juan. No other ship in Labadee.:D

taking the set sail pass with you to the terminal saves having to fill out & sign there.
makes the while process easier for you & your check-in agent :)

Any paperwork that I can do ahead of time and take with me will get me that much faster on board which works out just fine.

Did you hear about the Costa Concordia?

On Friday the 13th!:eek::confused::eek:

Praying for a safe rescue of the passengers and crew.

Delta I heard that on the news this morning. Wonder how the heck that happened:eek:! Heard that they hit something (I forget what) that ripped a hole in the side of the ship. Where were all those fancy instruments that are supposed to tell you what is ahead? And I think they said the ship was way off course too! Maybe someone was playing Words with Friends or Gameboy or something when they should have been paying attention to their job! Seriously though I hope they find the 14 missing passengers to be safe and sound.

I just called RCCL and spoke to someone about making a large reservation for the group. Shannon said they don't have a system for large reservations, the biggest table they have seats 8. If we all decide on a date and time and book ASAP, Chops will try to seat all of us in the same area. She suggested we either make our reservations online now or call 1-800-398-9819 and make the reservations.

How about Tuesday, March 27? We leave San Juan at 1 pm or Wednesday, 28 March, we leave Labadee at 3 pm?

I am planning on posting a new Roll Call either Wednesday or Thursday this week. Please send me any missing information, corrections, and any additions or deletions. There are quite a few people we haven't heard from in a while. Give us a shout out and let us know how you are:D. grandmagailhornig@gmail.com

When we made reservations on line before out March cruise last year they didn't have a record of it when we checked after boarding the ship so I'm a little skeptical of trying to do this on line.

I have spoken to Gail who is in a suite about getting her to get the concierge to make the reservations for us once on board. She has agreed to do that if we want to wait until we're on board. I know we won't be able to all be at one table so that's not a problem. Actually if we can agree on a night and time she can e-mail the concierge before the cruise and have him take of it.

I would vote for Tuesday the 27th. I know when the first and last formal nights are but not sure of the third so this might be a formal night. I don't care but others might.

Just had a very nice mini- meet and mingle lunch with Tommy and Sandra! We couldn't talk enough about cruising:D! We decided to get together again before the cruise so we could talk some more.

It's sooo cold here today! Now that I'm back from lunch and in for the day I'm in comfy sweats and thinking about turning the fireplace on!

Oh to be someplace warm, sunny with very blue water in sight and maybe a froo froo drink complete with umbrella!

Tuesday is fine with us too.

To anyone familiar with the Grandeur, Chops on Enchantment is where the Singin' in the Rain lounge was. Not that big a space to begin with. It's the same size as the Schooner Bar. Smaller because some of it is prep space.

As I recall it wasn't all that busy last year. I think waiting til we're onboard would be ok.

Any one see the article on Mario (Mr.299) in the Crown & Anchor mailing? He was on the Liberty with us in November.

I thought I was ready for this cruise before, but now after a delightful mini M&M with Carolyn, Carmen, Kelly & Millie, March 19th can't come soon enough.

Radio's live broadcast from Enchantment this week hasn't made it any easier either. This winter hasn't been terribly cold so far but I am definitely ready for the sounds of steel drums and the warm breezes of the Caribbean. And of course some kind of libation.;)

What time on Tuesday for Chops? Is 6 p.m. ok with everyone?

If interested in joining us post here so we can get a head count for the reservations. Then if we ask Gail very nicely maybe she will take care of our reservations with the concierge. I think we e-mailed him about two to three weeks prior to boarding about reserving a cabana and heard back from him right away.

We're in for our party of three!

On our other cruises the formal nights have been on the first sea day (making it Tuesday the 20th) and the second to the last sea day (I think that would be the the 29th since we get back on the 31st.)

Please someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

:confused: I have never been on a cruise in March that has left from this far up the coast. If anyone else on here has left from Baltimore in March before, a little guidance on what to expect temperature-wise would be much appreciated.........especially dressing for formal nights.

I've been following Radar's cruise, and it seems to me that they have had a fair amount of cool weather to deal with. I may have to rethink packing.

I have cruised in March before, but we have always left from either Puerto Rico, or Florida.

Thanks in advance; I don't want to wind up in a Scarlet O'Hara original! :)

I got out my scrapbook from last March’s cruise and the Evening Attire for Day 1 was Casual, Day 2 was Formal, Day 3 attire was Casual/Country, Day 4 & 5 were Casual, Day 6 was Smart Casual, Day 7 was Casual/Tropical, Day 8 Smart Casual, Day 9 Casual, Day 10 Formal, Day 11 Smart Casual and Day 12 was Casual.

Looking at the Meet & Mingle schedule on Cruise Critic it looks like it will be planned for the second full sea day, but double check after they post the schedule. It was changed when we got on board in November and some people missed it.

February 11 - Pre, Pre Cruise lunch or dinner – place and time to be determined
March 18 – Pre Cruise dinner – place and time to be determined
March 19 – Departure Day – wear “beads” to the terminal
*March 20 - Day 2 Tuesday, First full sea day, 8:00 am breakfast in the Main Dining Room (MDR), TBD Meet & Mingle, Gift Exchange, and Cabin Crawl
*March 21 - Day 3 Wednesday, 10:30 Casino Slot Pull
March 22 -Day 4 Thursday – 11:00 Shuffleboard – Check Bulletin Board by Guest Services for Deck number

*These will be determined when the Meet & Mingle is scheduled. Let’s try and wear our beads all the time.
Check the Bulletin Board for any changes and if we have your Cabin Number you can be called.

Meet & Mingle – This is a get together for Cruise Critic Members. Get a chance to put faces with the screen names. Refreshments are served and a staff member from RCCL hosts the M&M. It is usually held the first full sea day and all who have registered should get an invitation in their cabin with the time and location. At the M&M those who wish to participate bring a gift to exchange ($10 value), usually something from your home area. Some games are played and prizes awarded. It just is a great time to Meet & Mingle.

Cabin Crawl – don’t you want to see as many different options for cabins as you can? This is a perfect opportunity. After the Meet & Mingle we will crawl (really just walk) to the cabins that have been offered to be shown. So far we have Grand Suite, Junior Suite, Balcony, and Ocean View. Some cabins might have treats or surprises for the visitors. This is purely optional. Any volunteers to show their cabins?

Thanks Gail for making a list for us! And for telling everyone to be sure to check the board for any updates and/or changes.

We have cruised from Baltimore before and have the first day at sea (Tuesday) to be a little cool (I usually am fine with capris and a t-shirt-maybe a light jacket, the same one I will wear to the port for sailaway.) By the second sea day it will be warmer and if we're lucky you might even be able to get a little sun. Coming home it will get cooler as we cruise up the coast but we have been known to have some great warm days in late March/early April so you never know.

I don't bring anything special. You're going to be inside for formal night so no need to make any changes in what you're wearing.

Cruising in January from Baltimore like Radio is doing and cruising in March should be quite different. Although as I say that I remember that his sailaway day it was in the mid 60's in Baltimore! I doubt we will have that in mid March!

And Tommy has agreed to be co-captain of the Shuffleboard Team! He might even look up the real rules for us;).

Or we can just play by our own rules-how hard can it be? The thing has numbers, you land on one and you get those points:rolleyes:. You don't land on a number-no points! Those would be my rules but I think I heard something about what happens if someone else knocks your puck thingy off of a number. Now that sounds complicated:D!

I bought all the name tag holders yesterday and I'll start printing the name tags soon. If everyone could make sure Gail has your information or you can email the information to me at (BelAir191@gmail.com), it will help things go faster for me. The name tags will have your CC name and your real first name. I will have plenty of blank name tags and sharpies with me to make any last minute tags.

Just a quick question for all you seasoned travelers on Enchantment... if you order the wine package, are you only allowed to have the wine at dinner or can you get a glass during the day... when you are in your cabin or hanging out on the deck??
Are the wine packages a good deal or could we do just as well ordering a bottle at dinner?
Thanks for you input.. looking forward to a relaxing trip!

I have added Cheryl and Anthony and John and Andrea for Chops. We're now at 20.

If you buy the wine package you get a bottle in the dining room at dinner or if eating dinner in the buffet you can get your bottle there. You'll have a card to carry around with you to indicate that you purchased a package. I think if you don't finish your bottle you can carry it back to your room or can leave it in the dining room and they will bring it out the next night. You cannot get a glass from your bottle when you are out around the ship.

Check the web site for the prices of the packages. You should also be able to price wine by the glass on line. You're going to pay more for wine in the package than you would pay if you were able to buy the same wine at home. But you can't bring any on board with you .

We used to get the packages all the time but stopped doing that when the wine choices changed. I would wait til you get onboard and go to the area outside the buffet where the sell the wines pa kages and look at the wines they offer. With the package you save an average of 40% of their prices if you order a bottle with dinner every night. The best deal is the cheapest package, the gold one. It all depends on your taste in wines though. Good luck!

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are new to this board posting thing (lol, not really sure what the right term for it is) and aren't really sure how to use it but we're hoping to meet some new people on this cruise or even before if possible. This will be our second time on Enchantment and we're really looking forward to it. We met some great people at dinner on our last sailing and are hoping to have similar luck again this time. Hope we hear back from someone!!

Welcome aboard to all the newbies on the thread! Happy to see our numbers grow. The more the merrier!:D As you prepare, be sure to locate some Mardi Gras beads. We wear them on embarkation day so that members of the Bead Brigade are able to spot one another as we enter the terminal and make our way around the ship the first day. Many of us already know one another and have become fast friends. Wearing the beads will allow us to spot you and you us. Come on over and introduce yourself if you see any of us...before we see you!:p

I do have to say that I am VERY excited about sailing out of Baltimore again. Last time was in '03 on the Celebrity Galaxy. Bill and I had so much fun and met the NICEST people.
We drove to Baltimore a day early and stayed at a pathetic excuse for a hotel. However, we went to the inner harbor where we were having so much fun we almost missed the ship! It was one of those things with sitting and chatting and not realizing how the hours had flown by. We got to the parking lot at the terminal to find out that they only took cash so we had to drive to some store to use their ATM that was down the road.
Everyone was doing the drill and the workers were literally running us through everything.
After all that, the ship was late pulling out anyways as it was stuck in mud!
I am a very punctual person, so this was waaaaay out of the norm for us.
As for the people on the cruise, I was in tears when leaving.
After that, it seemed that Celebrity wasn't going out of Baltimore any longer, so we tried Carnival out of New York's port. We gave them 2 chances and there will not be a third. We personally think the people of out Baltimore, the crew members with RCI, Celebrity, are the best.
My husband and I were shocked how we were treated on Carnival. Not all were bad mind you, but most crew members didn't seem to want to be bothered about anything. Even the BJ dealers were not that pleasant.
There were a few times over the buffet line at breakfast that we thought it was going to be every man for themselves to get those last sausage links. I had one woman literally knock me to grab food. I turned to her and smiled saying, "They will be back shortly with a full pan, no worries, plenty of food for everyone."
My husband and I are low maintenance just wanting to have some cocktails and great conversation and not expecting the world from a cruise. However, for the money spent, a smile or two from crew members helps.

Welcome to the cruise Eileen and Bill and other newcomers!

Sorry you guys didn't have a good experience on Carnival. We have been on 3 Carnival cruises and have another booked in Oct. of this year. We have found the crew on all of these cruises to be very nice and helpful. We think the food is better on Carnival than on RCI. The ships decor is a little gaudy but we don't care about that.

This crazy weather we're having in January-yesterday it was in the mid-60's again! I'm not complaining though!

I'm going to confess that I have started putting things out in my "cruise packing staging area" (the bed in the spare bedroom!). My carry on suitcase is there and every time I think of something I want/need to take I'm putting it on the bed. I have never used a packing list like some folks do. I just start early and so far haven't forgotten anything.

I haven't cruised out of New York (and never will-the thought of driving there is enough to nix that idea and we don't fly) but I agree about Baltimore. We love the port.

You might try the port in Norfolk, Va. sometime. We love that one too but right now not many ships are going out from this port. Mostly cruises to the Bahamas.

Maybe it was the port? I don't know.
We did meet some wonderful passengers and there were some very memorable crew personnel that we were very fond of, it was just not what we were accustomed to with past cruises. That is why we went on a different ship to try a second time but it really was the same thing.
There are always 1 or 2 grumps whether it be personnel or passenger, and there are always some kids running amuck with not much supervision, but this was a lot more than the norm.

Anyways..to go forward now.
Reviews I have read so far is the food is mediocre on the Enchantment. Good to know so I do not have the "bar" set too high. We definitely want to eat at Chops having read more positive than negs. We had our 25th anniversary on the last cruise and had dinner at Nick and Nora's. YUM! Fantastic service, food. The chef even came to our table to chat for a few minutes.
One thing I noticed on the RCI site is that they do not allow you to bring on any wine. I am so glad I checked that first! We have a favorite wine we always bring for one special night. That would have been a bummer. I do not like surprises! lol

Okay for people who have been on this ship before. Do they do sushi bar, etc? My husband LOVES his sushi.
Also, how is their spa? Massages, any favorite masseuses?
I need to go and get my mardi gras beads so I can be spotted! Will post later :-)

As we get closer GrandmaGail is going to have the concierge make our reservations for us so we will need a definite head count. You will pay with your sea pass card that night.

We already have more than one table can handle but we will all be at tables next to each.

We understand if you want to have a more intimate experience and would prefer to go alone:D.

Welcome TerpGrad, Eileen, Bill and anyone I missed to this group. I personally don't think you will have a bad experience on EOS, at least not with our group of cruisers. I also can say without a doubt that our last cruise in March 2011 with this group was by far our best and we can't wait to go again and start the fun all over. We have become a family of friends and even some of the crew seem like friends. Cruise Director John Blair and his wife Katrina, his staff, Susie, Desmond and many more to mention. If you don't have fun, it will be a shame.

Has anyone heard whether Capt. Rob is still on EOS or has he moved on. He always made things enjoyable while high on the bridge. He wasn't "HIGH" on the bridge, just high on the bridge.

One thing that has come to mind from the disaster in Italy. I never gave a thought to the life preservers being in the cabins and passengers being elsewhere when a problem happened. Hopefully we will never be on a ship with a hotdogging captain and find the need to use them.

My heart and prayers go out to all the families of the missing and dead. So so tragic and NEVER should have happened.
We have never had a horrible cruise. Just some better than others. I have to say Baltimore people seemed to be a lot more fun than Miami, Galveston, or NY. Looking forward to this.

Tommy- Our wonderful and fun Capt. Rob has moved on:eek::mad:! He hasn't been on Enchantment for a while now. I think he's on a ship out of someplace in Florida. I know I'm gonna really miss him and his daily updates!

As long as our new captain knows his job and will not be the first to run to the lifeboats in case of emergency I'll be happy!

That whole thing is such a mess. And so sad for the families who lost loved ones.

Okay for people who have been on this ship before. Do they do sushi bar, etc? My husband LOVES his sushi.
Also, how is their spa? Massages, any favorite masseuses?
I need to go and get my mardi gras beads so I can be spotted! Will post later :-)

One of the things on the schedule for the upcoming re-fit is a sushi bar/Japanese restaurant. However that is some months off. I can't remember whether the buffet has a sushi station or not. Our last cruise was on the Liberty OTS and the Windjammer there did have sushi.

My wife hates flying. I lose patience with the TSA. We've discovered trains. AMTRAK goes to Ft. Lauderdale, New Orleans, Bayonne (Cape Liberty), and other places we catch cruise ships. So we are expanding the ports we can sail from a bit. I'd really like to book one of the larger Celebrity ships sometime.

Never tried Carnival, but now that we've reached the diamond level in RCCL's loyalty program (which makes us "elite" on Celebrity), there really isn't much of an incentive for us to try. You can get used to those diamond freebies pretty quick.:D We have friends who always do Carnival and have a great time, but they only sail DURING the school year and NEVER during times college kids do.

College kids love Carnival's prices. Some friends of our son's did a spring break Carnival cruise out of Norfolk some time ago. Four guys stayed in an inside cabin and split the costs equally. It was like $200 bucks apiece for a week's cruise. The ship was packed. The half-naked girls running down the hallways I might be able to deal with but the screaming and the barfing, especially the barfing, not so much.

I am with your wife in regards to haters of the flying club. Since we are at the border of WV/VA it is only a 5 hr drive to Baltimore. Big whoop.
We drove to Galveston the one year. (When we still lived in Chicago) Way too long of a drive. Miami was the one where we flew out of O'Hare. I was not thrilled.

Bill and I are planning sometime in the next couple of years with doing a Cunard cruise over to Southampton, then spend a couple of weeks traveling to Ireland etc., then go back on Cunard for the trip home since they do so many runs back and forth.
Another place on my bucket list is to see Alaska. One of my favorite things while on a cruise is meeting others who have been to these places and hear their stories.

Ed, we don't do any cruises when school is likely to be out! But especially Carnival:rolleyes:! All of our cruises are before June and after October or later. I don't care if the prices are higher then. I'd rather pay more and not have so many kids.

I wish we could take the train to some other ports but Kelly is the only one of our group who is still working and taking a train typically takes a long time so she would have to take too much vacation time to do that. Someday when she retires maybe-if I'm still alive:D!

Anyone interested in forming a team for the Quest? We want to do that and could use some more for a team. If you're new to RCI the Quest is an adult scavenger hunt type of game. The cruise director will ask for each team to bring up an item. Each team has a "runner" who will run up with the item-you want to be first to show your item. Teams each have a number. The team that gets the most items wins. It's fun but definitely for adults-it can get sort of raunchy at times.

We've had lots of fun in the past doing the Quest. Don't know which night they will do it but it usually starts around 10 p.m. in one of the lounges.

Yes, it is a whole lot of fun, although I can never seem to get my ensemble right. I was forced to have a bra that didn't fit, wrong shade of lipstick and don't get me started on the shoes. I am just going to have to sit that part out this year and let someone new have all the fun. Although I DO want to participate on a team. Maybe we can start collecting some things that may be asked for, or is that cheating. (Remember all socks have a hole in them or you couldn't put them on.);)

I just read on a thread over on the Carnival boards that someone has seen previews of this show and some of it will be made up of snippets from you tube:eek::eek::eek: probably depicting us cruisers as a bunch of drunks partying wildly night after night with no regard to our safety. What a load of bullship! Oh wait- that does sort of sound like us :D:o! Just kidding!

But I do hope the show will be a little more informative. I'm dvr-ing it to watch tomorrow.

I am watching a disaster movie called 2012,and it is all about the end of the world as we see it. Spectacular effects and all that goes with it. I suggested that you rent the movie if you haven't seen it...my point??....The Italian fiasco that has happened recently. I for one will still go on my planned Cruise! I am going to watch 20/20 tonight about the special, pertaining to if you are planning on going on a Cruise,it will be shown at 10pm on channel 2, you should watch this! We have car crashes, plane disasters, train wrecks, etc,etc...are we going to stay at home and never venture out? I DON"T THINK SO!!! So, no matter what they say, I for one will still be going on the Cruise in March 19th - through the 31st!!

Posted on Facebook by Cruise Critic:

"Coming up at 10 p.m. Eastern time: Cruise Critic Editor in Chief Carolyn Spencer Brown appears on ABC's "20/20" special "Cruise Ship Confidential," in which the news outlet delves into the Concordia tragedy."

I agree that TV "news" shows slant based on their corporate policies, but I would like to hear what the head honcho of this website has to say about the Concordia disaster.

In a way, this was slanted. Carnival isn't always like this. Their low prices and facilities for kids make it the 2nd best cruise line for families (right behind Disney and just in front of RCCL). Unfortunately their prices and those 3 to 4 day cruises out of Florida make them the line of choice for college students during spring break and senior week.

Ever see those ads for "spring break" videos? (I'll assume no one here has actually seen the videos ) The whole cruise ship becomes a late night at Senor Frog's or Carlos & Charlie's with girls dancing on tables and guys chugging yards of beer. That's likely where they got their clips. Mediterranean cruises are far more expensive. I doubt Concordia was like that at all.

From I've read about Condordia, they sail a circular route each week to seven ports picking up and dropping off passengers as they go. Thus they only hold muster drills every few days. How they got away with this I don't know, but maybe maritime law is different in the Med. This will likely change as a result of this event.

While Costa is supporting the captain in his criminal trial, the company has joined the plaintiffs suing him. Yesterday two American law firms weighed in with a suit demanding $160,000 for each passenger on the ship. A Costa exec made a public statement deriding the passengers for making this event a media circus (open mouth, insert foot). Frankly I 'm guessing Carnival will fold the Costa brand and reassign the ships to other brands if they can't rehabilitate the Costa name.

I also suspect we will see a new series of commercials from Carnival, NCL, and RCCL touting their ships' safety records...

Cruznation

According to SKY News in the UK, Costa today stated it is no longer paying his legal fees. This guy is toast. In Italy he can get 12 years in prison for just leaving the ship early.

And when you get back you can just leave the suitcases and clothes out because before you know it you'll be leaving again for our cruise!

What a dreary day here! It's 36 degrees, cloudy and spitting rain. Think I'll turn on the fireplace too! And a lamp or two-it's really dark in here with no sun coming in the windows.

And I'm impressed-you iron! I haven't ironed anything in years! I don't buy it if it requires ironing. The only thing I use an ironing board for is wrapping Christmas presents. Once in a while when I cruise something will get wrinkled in the suitcase and I just sent it out to be pressed. Cost is pretty low and worth it!

Feb 11 - Pre Cruise Get Together 3:00 pm Timbuktu, Timbuktu.com
March 18 – Pre Cruise dinner – place and time to be determined
March 19 – Departure Day – wear “beads” to the terminal
*March 20 - Day 2 Tuesday, First full sea day, 8:00 am breakfast in the Main Dining Room (MDR), TBD Meet & Mingle, Gift Exchange, and Cabin Crawl
*March 21 - Day 3 Wednesday, 10:30 Casino Slot Pull - Noon lunch Main Dining Room
March 22 -Day 4 Thursday – 11:00 Shuffleboard – Check Bulletin Board by Guest Services for Deck number
March 27 - Day 8 - CHOPS 6:00 pm

Thanks again Gail for keeping our activities list and roll call list for us!

The last time I checked the Meet and Mingle I think there were forty something members signed up. If I counted correctly we have more than that on our roll call. So folks make sure you have signed up for the M & M. You can do it be clicking on "Register for a Meet & Mingle" at the top right of this page.

And remember to wear your beads around the ship so we can spot each other. When we meet for breakfast and lunch in the main dining room we need to meet at the door, get a head count. and walk in together. If you have your beads on this will be easy!

Do we want to have a sailaway party? I mean just getting together at the moment we pull away from the dock? We are always, always outside on the deck above the pool deck for sailaway (even when it has been freezing cold:eek:) but this time we will probably go up to the Viking Crown Lounge for a little while. I know Delta will be up there:D! Anyone else?

If you've never sailed out of Baltimore before you're in for a treat!

Depending on the weather we will be on the pool deck for a litttle while ..
then we will head up to the Crown & Anchor to meet everyone for the sailaway :)

Has anyone recently went on-line to use their Points from
RCCL/ Bank of America credit card...
The last time I used points I called & they gave you a confirmation # then sent you a certificate ...
This time I went on-line & I did get a confirmation email.
Is this all there is to it ....or will they be sending me something in the mail. ?? Is there a number to call to confirm, Seems like you need more than just an email saying you asked to have the $'s as OBC for your cruise.... ?? Anyone have a # to call did not see one on line ...

I love being in the Viking Crown Lounge at Sail- A- Way but if my luggage is in my Stateroom I feel the need to unpack. I can skip unpacking this time and Ken and I will join you and everyone else who is there for the party! P.S. Where is your Countdown Clock for this cruise?

Gail-I like to get unpacked ASAP also. The last few cruises out of Baltimore our luggage has been at our door when the rooms are ready so by 4 p.m. I'm all settled in. Of course it's going to take you longer-I'll have a 24 inch bag and a 21 inch carry on and you'll have 8 bags( or is it 10?) to unpack:D:D!

I like to get my room just the way I want it since it's gonna to be my home for 12 days!

I find if I unpack in a hurry and just stash stuff I forget where I put it all:eek:. Anyone else have that problem?

We'll make our way up to the Viking for sailaway unless the temp is in the 70's and the sun is shining!! In that case we'll be outside as usual.

Stella-not sure what you mean by what not to bring. You can't bring any wine or liquor. Let's see-I have heard of these things being confiscated: fans, extension cords (I always bring one and it's never been taken though), irons, blenders, charcoal grills-just kidding on those two:D!

If you have anything specific to ask about I'm sure someone around here can tell you if it's allowed.

Some things to bring-small zip lock bags (we like to keep some fruit or cookies in our room in case we get the munchies sometimes), Clorox wipes, anti-bacterial stuff in small containers to put in your bag going ashore, tissues in small packets, also for taking on shore.

Lots of other things that don't come to mind at this moment!

I called this morning to verify my points for OBC.
Spoke to a very helpful person, she checked to make sure I was in their system (I was) and told me that I could call one week prior to sailing, to ask if my OBC had been applied from my RCCL Visa card, She said, not really neccesary to call, since I printed out my confirmation e-mail....

Stella, last year I brought a brand new extention cord and a brand new power strip, both still in their packages. Chuck has a CPAC and it has a short cord, the only outlet in the Interior or window cabins is on the vanity near the bathroom. We were missing one suitcase and found out it was being held on the 1st or 2nd floor. We had to go and open it to explain why we had the electrical cords, they took them and told us we could pick them up after the cruise (which we forgot). While I was waiting my turn I saw gallons and gallons of alcohol being dumped into 5 gallon buckets and thrown out.

I also found out that not only can you not bring a travel iron, you can't bring a steamer either.

Stella, try WalMart for the battery operated fan, I like a fan blowing on me when I'm doing my hair & makeup. I bought several fans there last year...my son is in a band, when they played at Merriweather I knew I was going to suffer the day in the heat. I always take mine on cruises and they've never questioned the fan or my curling iron.

I have used steamers on several other cruises. I had no idea they were an issue. Thanks for the "heads up".

It sure would be nice if they had a laundry room, especially on a 12 day cruise. I guess we will just have to get things pressed if necessary. Thanks!

dixieva
January 25th, 2012, 07:36 PM
The charge for pressing only is very reasonable.

And they do have that bag of laundry special-all you can stuff in the bag for $20 or $25 (can't remember which) but depending on what level you are in the Crown and Anchor your coupon booklet will have a coupon for some money off of that price. I think as Diamond our coupon was for $10 off that bag so that was a great deal. It's wash and fold so we did shorts, t-shirts, nightgowns, socks. It helped to cut down on the packing!

Just read a posting on RCCL Facebook page that a medical emergency is keeping the Explorer of the Seas from coming into port on time on the 28th. They are now scheduled to return to NJ on the 29th. Obviously there are problems on both ends of this. Someone had to be airlifted, others getting an extra day, even more getting a shortened vacation. The one thing everyone agrees on, however, is that RCCL has done 'the right thing.' I pray the person who had to be airlifted will be okay.

dixieva

Last year when we were in Tortola we took the ferry over to Virgin Gorda (The Baths). This might not be for you. Try checking out the "ports of call" board. Go to the main page of Cruise Critic, click on ports of call and find Tortola. There should be lots of information there about things to do.

Most times when we are on an island for the first time we get a local taxi driver to take us on a tour for a couple of hours. They are usually waiting where the ship docks and you can negotiate a price. We've had some great tours this way.

Gail, as soon as the e-docs are available you should see the tab to order your luggage tags. I think this might be around 45 days out so it should be soon!

Hey Georgia-could you do us a favor while on the ship next week? We currently have 21 folks for dinner at Chops on the 27th of March. Can you look in there (or maybe you're having dinner there one night) and see if the place has seating for that many? I seem to recall that it was a small place. It would be great if you could do that:D! Just want to make sure so we can have a plan B if needed.

The days are getting longer:)! Almost six and it's not quite dark yet-that makes me very happy.

Today I'll be thinking of Georgia and Diane as they embark on their cruise. Wishing them blue skies and smooth seas!

Not sure what everyone is doing in St. Martin. We took a great tour last year with Bernard Tours and had a wonderful time and saw just about everything there is to see.

I was just checking out the Ports of Call boards and found out that there is a water taxi that you can pay $6 for all day. Not sure where the stops are but one is in downtown Philipsburg. I think we might just ride it all the way around for something to do-even if we don't get off! Also couldn't figure out if it is within walking distance from where the ship docks.

I'm going to try to find out more information.

Last January I bought a new WP5300 Pink Waterproof 12MP Digital Camera & Video Recorder (compatible with micro SD card) with case. I used it on the March cruise while snorkeling & parasailing with Gail. The pics and the video above/below the water turned out great but I had trouble seeing the LCD screen in bright sunlight so I had to use the viewfinder. I think I paid about $60 for it and would like to try to sell it to get some of the money back. I was just given another camera that I was told the screen is easier to see in bright sunlight. If anyone is interested in buying my other camera, they can email me at BelAir191@gmail.com. If you Google WP5300 you can get all the details of the camera.

I have heard several good reviews about Escape to the famous island of Jost Van Dyke named after a famous pirate and now home of the "painkiller" rum drink at White Bay beach. Enjoy a cruise through the Virgin Islands from Road Town to Jost Van Dyke. Land on the glorious white sand beach of White Bay as the early settlers did - directly onto the sand! Relax on the beach chairs, play on the sand, swim in the azure waters, and enjoy a complimentary cool drink and a snack. Several beach bars line the beach offering souvenirs and additional refreshments.

Bring some money for rental of watersports (paddle boats, kayaks, water trampoline).
This is on Totorla and it is $79 and several of us are doing this one.

Stella- you really only need your Set Sail Pass which you already have and your luggage tags. Not sure if your Senior Center will order the tags for you or not but go back to your cruise and where it says check status of the cruise documents click on that and you will see the place to click on mail luggage tags.

The other docs that we use to get in the mail are no longer mailed out unless you want to pay for them. They are issued as e-docs but I never print them out since you really don't need them to take with you.

Chuck and I did the Bacardi Factory Tour last year in San Juan. We were not that impressed, you don't see how the rum is made, it's only a drive around the complex, a history lesson on the Bacardi Family and then a demonstration how to make a couple of drinks with their rum.

I'm not specifically sure how it would work through the senior center but we booked the cruise through an outside rep this time as well but we still have access to see our reservation on the RCC website. "Cruise documents" are basically one big booklet that has a bunch of information specific to your cruise (i.e. number of formal nights, your dinner time, etc) and personalized to what reservations you've made up to the point of the documents being issued. For example, we already made our shore excursion reservations so that is listed in our documents. You can also order your luggage tags through the same area of the website. If you haven't been using the website to keep an eye on your reservation, I'd check with the senior center to see how they will get these things to you and how they'll help you with ordering the luggage tags. Hope this helps!

We also weren't particularly impressed by the tour but it was still neat to see and they have a good gift shop. If someone does go on the tour we'd really appreciate it if we could give whoever it is some cash to get us a couple more glasses from the gift shop that we got last time. This does help! I did check my reservation with RCC and it said that if I was going to get a booklet from whoever I booked with that the luggage tags would be in it, if not then they said I can get them at the pier. I believe that I will get something in the mail but I will call the center to discuss this with them.

I can get the tags at the pier according to my reservation online with RCC's website or they may be with my cruise ticket when they send it to me in the mail. I am planning on calling them to see what's happening and to get a better understanding since this is my first time doing it this way.

Thanks for the input:)

Hmm-interesting Stella. They don't mail out the cruise docs anymore unless you pay extra for them. So I guess your center must have paid that fee. If I were you I would make sure that you are getting them in the mail. I know you can get them at the pier put it's a pain to have to stand there and fill them out and attach them before the porters take your luggage. When you get them in the mail all of that stuff is on there and all you have to do is attach them.

How early can we be dropped off at the Port of Baltimore on cruise day? My son Mark has a class at 11:20 that day, I'd like him to drop us off so we don't have to hire a car or pay to park but I don't want him to miss class either.

I imagine people start arriving as early as 10:00am. You may end up standing at a gate or sitting for a while, but I'm sure you could be dropped off sometime after 10:00am. I guess the real question is where is the class?

If nearby, why not drop you as close to 11:00 as possible; if he has to be back up in BelAir-meaning he needs to drop you earlier, you may have to wait a little while. My suggestion would be to check the weather as the sail date approaches and make the decision. I don't know that there is any guarantee of seating, but I suspect they open the doors relatively early simply due to out of town (hotel) guests checking out in the morning and catching a shuttle. Check-out's are almost always required by noon.

FWIW, we plan on being there by noon. As soon as traffic subside in NoVA (meaning 0900), we're head to B'more.
---
Totally OT- (Yes I've been lurking) my wife and I will also be on board. Looking forward to 12 days of nothingness. We have some simple plans for Tortolla, SXM, and Antigua. Otherwise wwe'll be staying on the ship or just grabbing some small items at the port in St.Thomas & SJ.

If things go smoothly and the ship gets in on time that morning then you should be able to get dropped off around 10 a.m. We have been able to get in that early before. Into the terminal that is-not on the ship! I wish!

Welcome J & S!

Thanks for the input and yes, my son will need to get back to HCC in Bel Air for his class at 11:20. I'm guessing we'll play it by ear that morning, get there around 10 and hope for the best.
