We are booked on a January 30, 2012 sailing to Antarctica. Currently, we are booked in suite 410 and wait listed for suite 406. 406 appears to be huge. 410 is also a large suite. Any idea why these are such large suites? Any drawbacks to them?
Thanks.

I can't respond to the suite's size but I recommend getting as close to the middle of the ship as possible. The more forward, the more you will feel the up and down motion of the ship. If you hit heavy seas you will be much more comfortable closer to the center, i.e. higher numbered suites. We were in Suite 421 for our recent trip to Antarctica and in heavy seas we were much happier than our fellow travelers coser to the bow. Deck 4 is also very good because you will have a big window but you will be low enough in the ship to enjoy more stability from that perspective too ( less side to side motion than decks 5 or 7).

410 is a Vista Suite and 406 is an Explorer Class suite - one category down. The Vista Suite includes a large picure window, but Explorer Suite 406 just includes a standard-size window.

Both are very nice, but are you sure you're waitlisted for a suite that is one category below you?

My mistake. We are booked into 411 and waitlisted for 406.

That makes more sense! Glad to know it wasn't the other way around.
