Please be aware that this twelve day Mediterranean cruise arrives in Rome on a Sunday, October 9, when the Vatican is closed. Other museums and attractions should be available on this day. However, the following day, Monday, October 10, the museums in Florence will be closed. I don't know what tour adjustments Celebrity will make to the ones already published but I will post information as it becomes available to me.

The Vatican isn't closed on Sundays just the Museums, which unfortunately holds the Sistine Chapel. St. Peter's Basilica is open, which is pretty impressive.

Hi there, if you use the link above, it takes you to Carol's Pictures...they're amazing. They were on Brilliance of the Seas but had stops very similar to yours (and ours :) ). If you scroll down a bit, she's got some awesome shots of St. Peters.

Thanks for the clarification! That will certainly make things better! You are correct about St. Peter's. It's incredible!

Barbara: Our group is on the Oct 1 sailing of the "Millie" - knew about Sunday in Rome with Vatican Museum closed; however, didn't realize we were in Florence on that Monday. Considering "Rome on Your Own" and "Florence On Your Own" tours since other than museums in both cities most everything else does not require entrance fees, etc. Am I right? Does anyone have any idea where the Celebrity drop off in Rome is? Would like to attend Mass at St. Peter's before touring.

My husband and I were on a 'land tour' of Italy this past October and spent three days in each city, Rome and Florence. We varied the tours doing both 'organized' and 'on our own'. In Rome, I could not have seen as much as I did had we done it all independently. The streets are difficult to navigate, the traffic is horrendous, and the sites are not within walking distances from each other. Therefore, although others might disagree, I would be very reluctant to try to go it alone, especially for the first time with only a limited time being spent there. On the other hand, Florence is a different city and could be done on your own since things there are pretty close together.
I hope this is helpful to you,
Barbara

Barbara, I notice that our Roll Call thread is not getting much response. We have never been to Europe [other than my two trips to London, one on business and the other 14 days in the winter a number of years ago.] So we are trying to soak up all the information that we can about our stops and the ports.
I don't know if Josiem has registered for a CC party, but she mentioned that she had a group, and perhaps they will sign up. We are departing next Saturday on Century, and were stuck on 22, and suddenly roared to 28!

Suggest you check out other Millenium boards...we're sailing Oct. 25th - I've visited the boards from June onward and got lots of wonderful info about tours.

Folks, if you look at my signature, you will see that Nedra and I made a little change for our October cruise. We elected to go with the October 7, 2005 10 day cruise on Galaxy because it is not as port intensive as this cruise is.

Hi BarbaraB2,
I wondered if you could do a post on your Rome trip. I would like suggestions as to what tours you did, who you booked them with, and whether you felt they were worthwhile. Also did they include visits inside the exhibits. Was there a long wait, etc.
We are going on 10/7 Galaxy & will probably only be spending an extra day before we cruise. We would like to maximize our time & see the best of Rome.
I saw on another website that there is a 2 hr. trolley tour & wondered if anyone thought this would be worth doing. They give you headsets & it is in several languages also.
Thanks so much. Looking forward to your response.

Hi Mary, I would be happy to give you any information that I have; however,
our tour was an all inclusive Perillo Tour and most of the tours were prearranged
and provided through them. I have read about Italy tour providers on both the Fodor and Frommer's community boards which may be helpful to you. I also noticed that the hotel in Rome had a variety of tour options available to its guests which were comparable to what Celebrity offers on its excursions.
I can tell you that we used a wonderful limo service from the airport to our hotel for 42 Euros, including tax, for the two of us. limoservicerome@yahoo.it (limoservicerome@yahoo.it)
Good luck!

Hi Everyone,
I'm on the 01oct05 sailing of the Millie Venice to Barcelona. I have signed up for the get together but I need to know when it is as I have other obligations to attend to while aboard. I am leading a group of 200 dentists for a forensics on board lecture series and I will be very busy attending to all the details on a daily basis....but I do want to attend to say thank you for all the help everyone has given me. At this time I'm in 6020...but may get a last minute upgrade from the company ...I do hope I'll see you at the party !!!
