just came back from serenade of the seas trip jan 8th to 15th and stopped at sandcastle beach. what a great beach and friendly people. when you go ask for bruno--he serves the drinks and food on the beach and make sure you get a passionfruit colada--it was the best !!!! the taxi ride was fast and cheap too. can't wait to go back. they also rent snorkel gear for $5 for the day.

Do you recall the taxi cost? Cost for chairs/umbrella? How far away from the pier? Thanks.

hi puffinater--when you get to end of pier there is a taxi stand and just tell them your going to sandcastle beach. it was $6 per person round trip. we did the rum punch package--2 chairs, 1 umbrella and 2 rum punches for $25- friends of ours rented 2 chairs for $5 each. the taxi ride was about 15 minutes.

Ft. Frederick beach was being used during our 1/3 cruise. I did not go there so I'm not sure what condition it was in but it was not closed.

We did go to Sandcastle beach and enjoyed the snorkeling. It's not spectacular but there were quite a few fish around the rocks and coral areas and the water was very clear and calm.

This is great to know.
DH & I are avid snorkelers.
We have snorkeled all over the Caribbean and are always on the hunt to find a good beach to hang out too.

We were there last week. Our DH's were golfing so we decided to go to Sandcastle Beach for the day. Took a taxi from the end of the pier. I think it was $6. What a great beach!! Nice beach bar too!! It was the most beautiful beach we were on the entire cruise. 2 chairs, umbrella and 2 rum punches for $25. Great view of the ship too.

If you want to get a little exercise, you can walk to Sandcastle beach quite easily. It's not more than a mile and you walk next to the shore. I walk every day and found it more enjoyable to walk to the beach than walking on the ship.

Does anyone know if you have to reserve this online before you go? I know you can reserve through their website, but do you HAVE to? We are not sure what we want to do yet, so it may be a last minute decision. If we do the reservation online, where do you go when you get to the resort? Same place if you don't have reservations?
Thanks- looks like a great place to spend the day!

We didn't reserve ahead of time. It was a last minute decision when we arrived at port. It was not crowded at all. Very relaxing day.

We were just at Sancastle Beach on 2/15. No need to reserve ahead of time. We took the shuttle from the end of the pier. $6 round trip. They let you out in front of the resort and you go through the resort to the beach. $25 for two chairs, an umbrella and two rum punches. We also enjoyed use of their pool and wash room. There was a lady at the front desk when we arrived, she said just see the man on the beach. Don't worry, if you sit in the chairs he will come around to get paid. Very nice beach and good drinks at the outdoor bar!! Enjoy.

With the shuttle being round trip pricing, how does this work? Do you pay at the end when they pick you up to bring you back to the ship?

Hi,:) you pay before you go and they will give you ticket for your
payment. They have an area set up after you disembark the ship
with taxis/shuttles/etc and you will see the folks there who take
your $.

If you will want an umbrella it is best to reserve the package in advance because some days they do run out. Since you do not have to pay in advance there is no downside to reserving. We had booked in advance. A couple that arrived shortly after us without a reservation could not get an umbrella.

From the website, the resort and its pool appear small. I am worried that it will be crowded. It is larger than I am led to believe. It seems like a lot of people on CC are going here and I am worried that it will be overflowing with people.

Do they accept credit cards for the chairs and umbrellas or do I need to bring cash for everything?

Also, is the taxi/shuttle $6 per person or per taxi?

Hi,:) depends on how many ships are in port really. When I was there it
was not overflowing with people at all. It was wonderful:) The pool
is not giant but its not teeny either. The hotel itself is not like a large
highrise but a smaller resort....I would compare it to a European
style Pensionne. I would not "be worried" at all. Go and enjoy it:)
They accept both cash and credit cards and it is 6.00 per person.

I see you are going on Summit. I sailed her last month:) If you are
the only ship in port then I seriously doubt it will be crowded at all.
Have a wonderful cruise:D

Part of the way, there is a path along the shore, then you walk on/next to the street. It's easy to find since you just walk along the ocean until you see the hotel.

We just got off the Adventure of the Seas on March 13 and really enjoyed going to Sandcastle Beach. It is a $6 pp round trip cost via taxi. The drive is short and some people opted to walk from the ship along the beach. There is a spectacular view of the ship from the beach. We paid $5 each for a chair that was collected by the 'Chair Mon'. Umbrellas were available too but we didn't use one. Bruno ( exPatriot from Boston) was our beach bartender and was surprised to hear that we found out about him from this website. He feels flattered and honored that we mention him and how much fun he made the day. Bruno served us buckets of Carib beer for $15 ( 5 beers ) and kept us entertained. All the chairs filled up by mid morning. The serf was rough and there are rocks and shells on the beach. It was really fun looking for shells and sea glass! We had lunch at the restaurant which was delicious. They serve burgers, salads and wraps that were reasonable priced and very, very good. There is also a smaller fresh water pool with chairs that we could have used. The taxi vans come every 20 to give you a ride back to the ship. I highly recommend Sandcastle Beach for a lovely day.

You're going to a "beach". Shoes aren't necessary. ;)

I never wear shoes on a beach, I say go barefoot, the feeling is too sensational. :D

Love that he is getting love on this message board... he really is a great server. We request him every time we go to sandcastles.

Snorkeling is not great there as others have mentioned. Actually some of the best on the Island is under the pier where the ships dock - but they don't let you snorkel when the boats are in - you'll just have to come back another time!

I was there last week and am glad I had water shoes when in the ocean. There is coral/large rocks in the water and your feet could have easily been cut. While we entered the water where there were no rocks the waves kept drifting us down and we had to be careful of the rocks.

Yes, the beach is close enough to go for 2 hours. Is it worth the trip....it may depend on how tired you are or if you've seen enough from your morning tour.

Thank you, Kathy, for your reply. I am sure that we are tired the hole time, because we have the long journey to San Juan, the jetlag and all the exciting islands, but we want to do as much as possible in our week carribbean sea ;)
