Hi All, New to Hal and have my 1st crusie booked:D We are very excited. I understand that I get pionts for every day onboard and this I understand. I need help with the part that you get 1 point for every $300.00 spent, would this count for itmes purchased for the crise prior, ie drink cards, and shore excursions.
Thanks

All spending done in advance of your cruise is counted for Mariner Days.

about the only thing that doesn't count is the casino.

Everything else counts whether you book on line pre cruise or when you get on board.

But there's a limit to these days aquired from spending. There is a limit of one bonus day for each day sailed. If you spent $5000 for jewelry and other things on a 7-day cruise you would only get 7 cruise-days credit.

... but there's a limit to these days aquired from spending. You can only earn 1 day for each day of the cruise. If you spent, say, $5000 for jewelry and other things on a 7-day cruise you would only get 7 cruise-days credit.

That gets a bit confusing in the case of double days for being in a Deluxe Verandah Suite or Penthouse. That earns double days but still allows for a day added for each $300 in spending.

I just meant there is a limit on bonus days from spending - one bonus day for each day on board even if you're well over $300 x days onboard.

Your automatic tips are also counted. I guess you can go to the front desk and ask them about manual tips how to get credit for money given directly to the room steward but you may have to pass the money through your room account, don't know for sure.

The Hotel Service Charge counts because it is a charge. You can voluntarily increase your HSC and it then becomes onboard spending, but there is absolutely no way to get credit for cash tips given to anyone.

Thanks everyone, being new to Hal this was a big question. This sounds like a great reward program. I will tell DH we must go to the jewelry store:)

How HAL calculates the days is a mystery to me, but we seem to be getting more days than I think we should (not complaining!) I thought you only got double days for a Deluxe Verandah or above, but our days just posted, and we got double for our "verandah suite."

on the Ryndam as they are called suites even if they are the same as a balcony cabin on a Vista ship. It's just that they have fewer levels but we didn't get to use the Neptune.

Right. I just meant there is a limit on bonus days from spending - one bonus day for each day on board even if you're well over $300 x days onboard.

I am still confused (a not unusual condition): We be sailing on the Ryndam in a Veranda suite, a 7-day cruise - 7 or 14 Mariner days? We will be on a 17-day Noordam cruise in an SA suite - 17 or 34 Mariner days?

Another example is our upcoming 11-day cruise on the Maasdam. We'll get 22 cruise days for the cabin since it's a qualifying suite (2 x 11 = 22). On top of that we'll get a cruise day for every $300 we spend on the cruise up to 11 cruise day credits. No matter how much you spend you can't get more credits than the underlying length of the cruise. To reach that it would take $3,300 worth of spending so hopefully we won't reach that.:) Based on the things we've already booked on line with HAL we're closing in on 2 cruise days for spending so far. I expect we'll probably come home with a total of 4 days spending credits which will give us a total of 26 days for the full cruise and spending. I just have to keep Mrs. K out of the spa or we'll come home with 28 or 29 days! :D

Only the first 2 passengers listed get the bonus for the money spent on the trip. We found this out the hard way on our last cruise. I finally called HAL and it turned out my mom and DH got the spending bonus but not me even though the credit card charged for all was my card. Our TA had me listed first but HAL insisted my mom was listed first. I finally got it fixed but took awhile.

All passengers in Deluxe or Penthouse will get the extra bonus that category of staterooms.

Ahh didn't know that - it says "spacious suite or penthouse" from the HAL Mariner site. Cool that means DS and his gf got double too.
