My friend and I are travelling from the UK to join the Zuiderdam on June 11th. I have cruised before (only on British ships) but it'll be my friend's first time.

Whilst I love getting all dressed up in the evening, my friend is a little concerned as she "doesn't do dresses!" Can anyone please give me a hint as to what kind of things people actually wear on different evenings? I'm assuming that it won't be too different from what I've experienced before, but I thought it was best to be sure.

Any general "don't bother packing this" or "be sure to pack that" would be useful to.

Thanks,

Kat x

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

If your friend does not like dresses, she might get long chiffon pants. They are really flattering and are very formal. She can then get a sparkly top to go with them for each of the formal nights.

As far as packing goes, I strongly suggest that you get some 3 gallon ziplock bags and pack in those. I pack all my t-shirts in one, shorts in another, etc. That way, if you get searched by airport security, everything will stay folded and will be easy to get back in the bag.

Tell your friend not to worry. I don't wear dresses either, I hate that pantyhose as I get older. I get a very dressy pant suit for the formal evenings, or she can get a pair of nice black slacks with a sequened top, perfect. For the casual nights, I wear a nice pair of slacks and a nice sweater or blouse. For the informal nights, a nice pantsuit and she'll be fine.

Enjoy your cruise.

Just realized that my description might not be easy to figure out. Here's a link to some palazzo pants: http://www.chadwicks.com/chadwicks/product/product.asp?pf_id=48440&dept_id=71&search_token=1 They also come in chiffon, which would be a more formal look.

For the top, this blazer would be nice: http://www.spiegel.com/shop/ensemble.asp?tool=t1&f=b&Ntt=formal&N=0&Nty=1&D=formal&ensemble_id=21041&No=1&Ntk=descSearch (and the pants aren't bad either! Plus, they are on sale.)

Hope this helps!
