HI! I am a new member(lurked for a few weeks) and was wondering if Suite 020 is one of the Suites that has been having A/C problems lately? We are booked for the 5/1 sailing (DH, DD, my sister and parents, parent's friends). Thanks. Stacey

I do not know about the airconditioning in your suite.
However, I recently returned from the Maasdam in mini-suite 34. I walked by your suite many times and never saw any workers. I know that you are so convenient to your Neptune Lounge, which is lovely. (just looking in!)
Our trip down and back was chilly, so be sure and bring sweathers for day and night! Weather was wonderful once we got to the Carib area. You will love the Maasdam and its outstanding crew.

Someone posted a couple of weeks ago about AC problems begining with #12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and 22.

Wish I could remember who posted that thread - they had just returned from the Maasdam.

I was on the 10/30 cruise with all the A/C problems in the suites. JOHNR49 was in suite 20. A/C was non-existant. Don't know if it's been fixed.

I was on the 10/30 cruise as my buddy Orcrone said. We had basically no A/C for the week. I know that 016 and 018 had the same problems. It has been an ongoing problem for some time on this ship. Most of the other S-suites that had no problems. I don't want to get into the cat fights and debates about this ship and its problems. If I were going on this cruise I would go for an S-suite that is forward or stern. They might have the problem solved by now, but I still stand by my previous posts which state that removing the inside rooms to create the Neptune Lounge, resulted in an engineering mistake of some kind. I will say that while denying there was a problem and telling us it was fixed, HAL has offered us vouchers on a future cruise. I guess all you can do is try and find out how anybody fared on recent cruises.

I was next to John R. on the October 30 sailing in cabin 018. I know of at least 8 cabins around the Neptune Lounge that had no A/C for 10 days. It was miserable, making it hard to shower and then to try and dry off while you were sweating. Cabin 014 still have problems on the December 9th sailing and they were not happy either. On the other side of the Neptune Lounge, also cabins 019 and 021 had no A/C.

This indeed is an ongoing problem and when you were parked in Puerto Rico and it was 98 degrees, the cabins were just like a sauna.

A former employee of HAL said the Maasdam was originally built to do the Alaska itinerary and not the Caribbean, so the A/C system is not built to handle the heat.

I would suggest that if you are booked in the cabins mentioned, I would stop to Walmart and buy a 20" box fan to bring on board.

I think you need information a lot more current than 4 months ago before you worry about an A/C problem in one particular suite.

MARINER has been cruising the Caribbean on the Maasdam this week in a suite and has been posting. If I were you I would post this A/C question on a thread directly to him.

I have asked Mariner to check our Suite while he is aboard. We are sometimes in 020 but thankfully did not book that one for our upcoming b-t0-b's. We were in that cabin over Thanksgiving 2002 b-to-b's and had alot of mechanical problems. By the time we left, all problems were repaired but I don't want to go through that again if we can avoid it.

We were in cabin 16 on the Jan. 6th cruising to the Caribbean and had no A.C. problems at all. We had a wonderful cruise. Have fun.

We were in Suite 020 on MS Maasdam last year in May (Ft.Lauderdale - Montreal) and the year before in February (B2B Ft.Lauderdale - Ft.Lauderdale - Ft.Lauderdale).
No problems, except the first 2 or 3 days in Febr. 2003. We found it too cold. But that's a general problem for us in America and we didn't complain. But at the 3rd or 4th day "somebody" came and repaired "something".
