View Full Version : Volendam Not Docked. Why?

The Constellation and Volendam are in St. Thomas today. Just wondering why the Volendam is anchored when there is plenty of room to be docked. Or has the dock been extended out that far since I've been there? Any ideas?

Looks like there's a pier in front of Volendam...

Now that she's left port, you can see that the dock does extend that far...

To me, it looks like she is backing away from the pier heading for her next port. According to the "vinow" web site 3 ships, Constellation, Ocean and Volendam were docked at Havensight to-day.
The time listed on the photo is 17:55 (5:55pm), and according to the brochure she was leaving at 6pm, so guess she was able to leave early if all paxs were on board.

That's probably it. The time hadn't really registered with me. It just looked strange to see it there. Dave, I'll have to go back when it's light and take a look at the dock. I just didn't remember how far out it went. Thanks, everyone.

When the QM2 was at St Thomas last week, she was archored away from the dock...of course she is quite a bit bigger than the Volendam. :)

QE2 and Norway always anchor when at St. Thomas......do they pull too much draft for the inner harbor?

Yes, but the Norway has not been to the Caribbean since 2003. There was a fire in March 2003 and she was sitting in a ship yard in Europe last I heard. Host Doug would probably have more info on the ship.

Queen Mary 2 can only dock in a few places - Ft Lauderdale, New York. In the Caribbean she has to anchor practically in every port.

I was just checking vinow for March. They still show only January and February schedules for St Thomas. I was hoping that they would update their website before we leave for Ft Lauderdale.
