beach umbella

I am hoping to spend my time reading and swimming on the beaches. Should I bring a protable beach umbrella or do the public beaches and motu outings have umbrellas(palapas)?

Motu Mana, the one off Taha, didn't have umbrellas, but there was plenty of shade from trees.

No Umbrellas in the Bora Bora Motu.

Well I beg to differ on Motu Mahana. I certainly remember there being beach umbrellas there, although there's also shade available. On Bora Bora, you can lie under a palm tree. I don't believe the public beaches have umbrellas, but I could be wrong.

Fellow veterans, am I crazy? Are there, or are there not, beach umbrellas on Motu Mahana? Maybe I need a field trip to research this!

There used to be umbrellas of a sort at Motu Mahana but I know the place was wiped out at the time of the hurricane last year so maybe they were not replaced. Elmwood went quite recently.

I heard that they were to get new chairs at Motu Mahana so they may have them now.

Miriam, that's why I suddenly had doubts, because I remembered the typhoon. We'll have to hear from a recent returnee I guess--you'd think they'd replace everything.

Definitely weren't there in December Wendy.

Strange that they didn't replace them. Presumably they replaced the food and beverage serving area, or spruced it up? And the chairs? I'm guessing they store that stuff on the motu somewhere, and that the storage area must have been hit.

I was there the other week and I remember one or two of the round thatched shelters if that is what you mean. No actual umbrellas but the chairs seemed very new and there were plenty of them plus lots of shade. But it was very hot at this time of year. Make sure you have the highest sunscreen.

So... Do you think I should buy a portable umbrella? If there are trees available for shade on most of the beaches I will pass on the umbrella.
