We will be staying at the new San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter, 660 K Street.
Can anyone give a recommendation of a nice place for dinner and within walking distance.

I do not think you are going to find a shortage of GGRRReAAt restaurants to choose from in the Gaslamp Quarter. I live in San Diego and we eat in the Gaslamp frequently. What type of cusine are you looking forward to. There is a very good "Brazilian" style restaurant called Rio De Gado. Its a great dinner and fun experience. Let me know what you are looking for and I can give a more specific choice.
BTW, Croce's is a very good choice, California cusine and a great "jazzy" atmosphere!

We are probably looking for something that is a little more laid back...good seafood maybe. We will not have a chance to change clothes from our airline attire before we take off to tour the city by trolley. We will probably be eating early since there is a three hour time difference for us and our only other meal would have been something we purchased from Delta on the flight over.
Also, my parents are hard of hearing, so someplace with loud music is out. In Vancouver, we ate at a casual place (I believe it was called the Boat House) along the parks water front. We just jumped off our trolley tour, and then jumped back on after dinner. They had great salmon and we would like to find a place similar, although I realize that the water may be too far away. Anthony's would be wonderful, but not along our route.

For seafood there's always Anthony's Grotto (http://www.gofishanthonys.com/grottoabout.html), right next to the cruise port but a restaurant I like better is the Edgewater Grille (http://www.edgewatergrill.com/) in Seaport Village.

Blue Point Coastal is a nice seafood restaurant. There are two new ones in the gaslamp: Oceanaire and Ostera which are both pretty pricey. All these will be a little pricey. The Fish Market is a short cab ride and is right on the water next to the cruise ships so if there is a ship in port, you can watch it sail away. There is another restaurant at Seaport Village called the Boathouse that has nice views of the Harbor. Just about all the restaurants in the Gaslamp serve fish entres. Rockin Baja Lobster has 'Baja style' seafood. When we want fish, we go to the Fish Market.

Are any of these eateries casual and on the Trolley route?

Did you look at the two links I posted earlier? There is a wealth of information on these sites.
At Gaslamp.org if you look at Parking and Map there is info on the Trolley and maps.

Given what you've asked for, I second the recommendation of the Fish Market. Good fresh seafood, not super expensive, nice view of the harbor and not super loud (but on a Friday night it will be busy) If you want a more upscale place, Upstairs at the Fish Market has better food, a quieter atmosphere but more $$$. It's a short cab ride from the Marriott (who knows, they might even run you in their van.) You could take the trolley but its a couple of block walk at each end. I'd avoid the places in Seaport Village-they are mainly tourist destinations seldom used the by locals. The recommendation of Blue Point is right on but it is more expesive than many places in Gaslamp. There is a McCormick and Schmidts in the Gaslamp. My wife had dinner there last month and found it quite good.

Yes Gizmo, I did look at your links (and had already seen the one for GasLamp...thank you very much!
I guess what I am trying to say is... we will be flying in, checking into room, running back out and catch the trolley. We will be hungry, so we want to get off the trolley somewhere along the line, eat and then hope back on to continue the tour back to the hotel area. We don't mind a block or two to walk, but my parents can't do more than that (especially up hill.) We don't mind $$$, but do not want to go anywhere fancy because of the touring clothes we will have on.
Thank you all for the suggestions. Looks like the Fish Market would be our best bet. ;)

The good news is that the Gaslamp and the pier areas of San Diego are virtually flat. No stairs, no hills for your parents. (If it's raining, as is the current forecast, I'd grab a cab. The storms have been torrential at times.)

Hello,
I also live here in San Diego, and my DH and I just had dinner last night at a resturant called
MISTER TIKI MAI TAI LOUNGE
801 Fifth Avenue San Diego CA 92101
Great food, casual, hawaiian style decor and food.
It is across the street from Croce's, at 5th and F.
What is great about this web site is that you can make reservations for many restaurants in town right on line at this web site!! Very useful!
This site also rates and gives you top ten too!

Hope this helps!!

The web site mentioned is a shill. If you read the reviews every place got 100 out of 100 points. They love every place. Beware. Go with poster's personal evaluations, the web site is absurd. (For example, Tom Ham's Lighthouse gets rated with "excellent" food-well maybe if all you've eaten before comes from Taco Bell) For good, honest, reliable San Diego evaluations see www.chowhound.com

Hello Bfson.
First of all the web site for San Diego Restaurants that I gave is good. You stated that "The web site mentioned is a shill. If you read the reviews every place got 100 out of 100 points. They love every place. Beware"
If you read the site the "100 points" has nothing to do with the reviews.
Please Note:
Book your reservation today and collect dining points for San Diego's finest restaurants. Every time you book your reservation online you will receive 100 - 300 dining points. To welcome you to our website, we will credit your first online reservation with 300 extra points.
When you reach 1000 points your receive a $20 GC, 2000 points is $50 GC, 3000 is $100 GC.
I am sorry to have to disagree but I have used this site for years for making dinner reservations and reviews. I have found anything to be on the up & up!!
Finally the reviews for from patrons to the places who rate the restaurants!!
I do know that we all have our own opinions and that people very seldom agree!! So when it somes down to it is is a personally choice!! Just my two cents worth~~

You're right on the 100 points credit, but never-the-less they adore every restaurant listed. If only all of them were "outstanding" (sigh) I've never seen a positive review of a number of places on their list, but the site still raves about them. I wish they were all wonderful, but they are not. I find www.chowhound.com FAR more critical, discerning and thus more reliable.

The Fish Market & Anthony's that others have mentioned are good best but the Fish Market is a good walk from the trolley station with parents in tow.
After reading your comments, here are some that you might want to look at. All are not seafood but they are good casual retaurants. These are not ranked in any kind of order.
1) San Diego Pier Cafe - This is in Seaport Village and it is casual seafood dining with a very nice view. You are on a pier over the water. The only drawback is if you are tired the walk is probably 15 minutes from the trolley stop. As someone else pointed out, the land is all flat though. The food is not spectacular but it is good and it has seafood.
2) Dick's Last Resort - close to your hotel but you have to go here early or it does get loud. This is not really a seafood restaurant but it has king crab legs and fried shrimp, fish etc... Be warned though the staff is rude here but on purpose. It's a fun place.
http://www.dickslastresort.com
3) KC Barbecue - It's a BBQ place but it's close to a Trolley stop across the street from the Manchester Grand Hyatt. May not be seafood but it's good, not great. This is where the movie Top Gun bar scenes were filmed and there's great memorabilia around.
4) Joe's Crab Shack - This chain has a nice restaurant behind the Convention Center on the water in the old Rowing Club. It's a nice walk from your hotel or the trolley stop. You have to walk behind the Convention Center so it is a good walk but it is good and casual.
5) Gaslamp Strip Club - I like this place for a nice casual experience. It is a steak house but you cook your own food. It's fun but you may or may not be up to doing this after your long flight but the food is good. It's not much seafood but you can get some fish and shrimp. I like getting the Shrimp and ahi tuna kabobs. It's close to your hotel.
http://www.gaslampstripclub.signonsandiego.com/1.html
6) Panda Inn Horton Plaza - This is good Chinese with some seafood at the top of Horton Plaza. It's about a 10 minute walk from your hotel or take a bike cab that are all over the Gaslamp...
7) Rockin Baja Lobster Gaslamp - This is very close to your hotel and I love the buckets. You can get a bucket of steak, chicken, shrimp and lobster so it has something for everyone. Since you're going on a cruise to Mexico this may not be for you but it's good.
Here's 2 resturants that are a little more upscale them what you might want but I'll list them as they are good.
8) Sally's - This is on the waterfront of the Manchester Hyatt. Just get off on the trolley in front of the hotel and just walk out to the waterfront and you'll see it. Personally I like this place for lunch.
9) Lou and Mickey's - This is also close to your hotel and also a personal favorite of mine before going to a baseball game at Petco. It has a good selection of steaks and seafood.

I just listed a few that might fit into what you want. As others said the Fish Market and Anthony's are good choices but thought I'd give you more choices. If you have any questions on these just ask. I have eaten at all of these places plus many more in the Gaslamp. There are plenty of great restaurants in the Gaslamp that are interesting and different but these are the ones I thought might fit in with you. If you weren't tired and had more time I like just walking the Gaslamp looking at the menu's and chosing one but you may be too tired for that. Friday night the place gets crowded.
Are you going to be on Oosterdam Feb 26? My DW and I will be on that one. I can't wait!

It's also doubtful you'd be underdressed for San Diego, unless you were going to a very fancy restaurant. When I lived there, I had regular flip flops and my formal flip flops.

Lou and Mickeys is good. Anthony's Fish Grotto is a San Diego all time fav. Not as flashy as other restaurants but , oh so fresh is the seafood.

Lou and Mickey's is primarily a steakhouse, but they do have an oyster bar. As far as casual--this is San Diego--EVERYTHING is casual. Like the poster above said, you have casual and dress flipflops!
