Black and White Ball

I have seen some threads that refer to the Black and White Ball. What is it? Is it only on longer cruises? I have been on 10 days cruises, but do not rememer it. Is is held on Formal Nights? Any info please.

It is held on formal night and, of course, the theme is black and white. The Officers so handsomely (beautifully for the ladies) turned out in their starched white formal jackets and black trousers (skirts). Most guests do their best to dress in black and white and you see alot of the ladies in black gowns/cocktail dresses. Gents in their black tuxes or white dinner jackets and black tuxedo pants.

The last few we were at were held in the crow's nest after late seating and pax dance with the Officers....lots of mingling and chatting and having a chance 'to party' with them.

In recent years, they are only held on cruises of more than ten days....but not always on an 11 or 12 dayer.

They are usually held only on the longer cruises.

We didn't have one on our 13 day cruise in May on the Maasdam.

But we had one on our 16 day Orinoco cruise on the Rotterdam and our 21 day Pan American cruise on the Statendam.

And we did have a Black & White Ball on all our repositioning cruises.

There was also a Black and White Ball held during our 17 day South America Explorer cruise on the Amsterdam. It was quite a lovely event ad the Crow's Nest looked fabulous!:cool:

Usually they're held about 10:00-ish and last until about midnight. That night the show for second sitting will be held before dinner to give everyone a chance to attend.

Lately they've been held in the Crow's Nest, but the customary venue had been the show lounge. By using the Crow's Nest there is more time to complete the decorations.

We had a Black and White Ball on our fifteen night Circle Hawii cruise last December. It was held on a Formal night in the show lounge. The lounge was beautifully decorated and the orchestra played. All of the officers were there. It was ladie's choice and the officers all had slips of paper with numbers on them in their pocket. When the number was called the lady or gentleman dancing with that particular officer was given a gift.

The captain was there with his wife. They seemed to enjoy socializing and stayed for quite a long time. Of course, that meant all of the officers stayed as well. It was a wonderful evening. We enjoyed the music, the companionship and the glamour of it all.

We had the Black and White Ball on the Prinsendam in October on our Black Sea cruise and the year before on the Noordam on our cruise from Copenhagen to Rome. The first cruise was 13 days and the second was 14 days.

The officers look terrific in their evening attire.
