A Perfect Day for a Web Cam Wave on the Oosterdam Feb 12th

Good Morning HAL CCers, it looks to be an amazing February morning in San Diego. of course it is not too shabby here in Vegas either ;) But would be so much nicer to be in San Diego to board the Oosterdam :D

Today should be an interesting day with the Embarcadero area being very busy with the San Diego Centennial of Naval Aviation Kick-Off.
This is a snip from the Los Angeles Times this morning.

The sky above the San Diego Bay will be filled with military planes Saturday afternoon as the Navy celebrates the centennial of naval aviation.
Starting at 1 p.m., more than 200 Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard planes will pass over the bay, starting with the Blue Angels, the Navy's flight demonstration team. The flyover will include restored vintage planes, plus the most modern, such as the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet.
The flyover is expected to take two hours, with good vantage spots from North Island Naval Air Station and around San Diego Bay, particularly Harbor Island.

So it should be fun for those on board the Oosterdam I am just hoping it does not mess up the web cam from too many people trying to access it :o So come back after 3 to see if I managed to get picture of our Web Cam Banner Wavers.

Lucky you to be able to view the Air Show starting at 1:00 PM. Sea View Pool should be a great vantage point. Enjoy your cruise with sun and heat.:)

Today definitely would have been a nice day to be in San Diego, instead I spend the day cleaning house :(

Beautiful day! Waiting for the banner wave. Wish I was sailing today. But, we ARE having a heat wave here in OH. Expect above freezing temps all week. Hooray! So long snow and good riddance!

Well we had to go to Plan B again this week :o I was told that the Deck 5 door would be unlocked but it was not then today we had to rush because they were being kicked off the Bow, they were being told they were not allowed out there. But we still managed a Web Cam Banner Wave.

There was just 4 of them today but they were determined to get in the Wave despite a crew member telling them they had to leave now. Mike joked they might get thrown in the Brig :D

it seems odd not to see anyone else on those forward decks. They are always open on embarkation day. I wonder if it had something to do with security because of the air show.

Unfortunately we have had this problem off and on this season only for the Oosterdam. It basically depends on who the current Management of the ship is :rolleyes:
A few weeks ago we went several weeks in a row with no problems at all, now we are back to what was happening in October.
This is the first season we have ever had this problem and I have been doing these web cams waves since January 2006.

I have to correct my above comments the first wave sort of happened Feb 5, 2005 when I captured Rev Neal on the forward deck of the Oosterdam from sitting at a near by restaurant with my zoom lense it was the following week that I figured out we could possible use the San Diego web cam and then in just a few weeks after that I did the first Wave and I think Copper John took the photos. It was in 2006 that we added the Banner. So it has actually been 6 years this month that we started the Web Cam Wave.

What I find interesting is we were the only CC board that did this for quite some time. It has not been till the last few years that now in Port Everglades many of the different lines are doing the Web Cam Waves weekly thanks to Lou at Mortgage Mobile.

More likely, everyone was at the back of the ship watching the flyover of about 40 planes from Aircraft carrier John C Stennis which was the climax to the celebration. What a view from the Oosterdam. Would love to hear from anyone that is onboard.

It's too bad they had trouble accessing the outer decks. I know I was scolded once for being out there, despite there being no signs that stated otherwise. Irked me a little!

Glad to hear you had a great week on the Oosterdam. I am curious coming back in on Firday night did the Oosterdam encounter some rough seas. The weather radar was showing some really bad weather in that area and I was specilating you may have had some rough seas.

Yeah it was rough Friday night. Pretty good swell, some thunder and lightning. Rest of the week was very calm.
