Thanks in advance for any and all answers to my questions.

1. decorating cabin door- I saw this on CC somewhere, and was wondering if it is done a lot and if HAL allows it.

2. ship activities and menus- are they "basically" the same on all HAL ships?

3. card/game room- do you bring your own games or do they have a variety? Can you start a game or are they planned by the ship at certain times?

4. Renting a Tux on the ship- has anyone done this, and should we do it before we sail or after we get on the ship?

5. Renewal of Vows- Any information on this would wonderful. I am going to make it a surprise for my husband. What do people wear?
6. Is there a ship cam? I have looked several places with no luck

7. Have you or have any of you seen "vintage" clothing worn on any formal night? What are your thoughts on this subject? I love to dress-up so 3 Formal nights is great in my book

8. Does HAL give any credits or perks for referrals? I talked my neighbors into booking a cruise with HAL, and they booked 2 days ago. This isn't a group thing or anything, I just mentioned we are going and I added a few facts that I picked up here on CC, and they liked it so much they are going the same cruise as us. Can I get some credit for referral from HAL, like a bottle of wine or a free tote or something?

1.Yes HAL does allow decorating of the doors.

2.The ships activities are about the same on all ships - trivia, etc. The menus differ slightly from ship to ship.

3.The ships do have all kinds of board games. You usually have to go to the library to check them out. Nothing is organized.

4.I would advise renting the Tuxedo before you get on the ship. They may not have the size shoes, shirt, etc., that is needed.

5.Renewal of Vows - this is usually held on an informal evening when people are already dressed up.

6.None of HAL's ships have cams. The only cam that is on a HAL ship is from the bridge showing where you are going - can be viewed from cabin TV>

7.Only once have I seen anyone wearing "vintage" clothing on formal night. It was a couple just a few doors down from us. He always wore his top hat and she had a hat to match her gown - all looked from the 50's.

The only cruises where you will have 3 formal nights are those that are 10 or more days long.

KK - did you mean to say Formal evening? The one time we were invited to be a guest at a Renewal of Vows, was on a formal evening. Actually, I think the Captain could hold it on either a formal or informal evening, according to his schedule. I think anyone renewing their vows would like to get dressed up even if it happened to fall on a casual night.

was held on a formal night but on our Zaandam cruise our friends had theirs on an informal night.
It's usually held between dinner seatings, approx 7-7:15 in a closed-off section of the crow's nest. Guests invited by the couple are charged $12.50 pp. The ceremony has gone up to $129 and includes champagne, hors d'ouerves, corsages, boutonnaires, a photo album, certificate, I hope I didn't leave out anything.
It's a very tasteful ceremony, couples are called up individually (we had 5 couples), and lasts about 30-45 minutes for the whole thing. The "Strings" play, people visit before and after. The captain, hotel manager and CD plus servers attend.

On Zuiderdam, there is also a stern mounted camera that can be viewed from the cabin TV. So, you can also see where you been.
