I found this posting by Copper 10-8 which should answer your question.
Maasdam is scheduled to enter dry-dock in Freeport, the Bahamas from 4-24 April 2011 for the first phase of her SOE part 2 enhancements:
In that dry-dock she will receive:
- Mix, a new bar concept with three separate bars; Martinis, Champagne and Spirits & Ales, computer games as well as a dude (or dudette) playing the piano. (taking the place of the current piano and casino bar)
- Showroom at Sea, a new jazz nightclub-tyle show lounge. (taking the place of the current main show lounge)
- The addition of Canaletto, a complimentary casual Italian restaurant for dining located in the forward part of the ship's Lido restaurant.
- The addition of Merabella luxury goods boutique.
- The refurbishment of the Ocean Bar.
- The upgrading of all staterooms including carpeting, soft goods, bathroom enhancements, etc.
- The addition of a canopy and windscreens to create additional covered seating for the Lido Restaurant.
Her first Cruise after that 2011 dry-dock will be a 13-day Canada/New England from Fort Lauderdale, Fl to New York, NY on 24 April 2011
Maasdam is scheduled for the second phase of SOE part 2 in another dry-dock at Freeport in the fall of 2013. During that dry-dock she is scheduled to receive:
- The resort-styled aft pool concept called The Retreat, where guests can enjoy a new pool bar, upscale pizzeria called Slice and the addition of a large LED screen for evening movies.
- The aft end of ship lengthened to accommodate the addition of 32 verandah staterooms, and a varying number of inside staterooms.
- The creation of Lanai category staterooms on Deck 6 with dedicated teak lounge chairs.
- The addition of verandahs to 12 staterooms on Deck 9 forward.
- The creation of 15 new Spa Staterooms forward

A few changes........
Maasdam already has Merabella Luxury Goods Boutique and has for years.
Maasdam also already has Canaletto in Lido.
Maasdam is Not going to have her Navigation Deck Aft Pool disturbed. They have decided to not install the additional cabins on Navigation Deck and install the Retreat on Lido Deck as they did on Veendam.
Maasdam is getting Lanai cabins at her upcoming April dry dock..... not at the second phase as listed above.

That's what I heard while on board last week, Sail. Further, our dining steward (who was wonderful...and on the Noordam on one of our cruises on her) told me that they have decided against adding additional cabins because they are at capacity for crew housing. More cabins would impact the current crew numbers.
Having said that, this could be true...or not. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
I would think HAL learned their lesson with the Veendam.

I wish they'd change their mind about disturbing the beautiful show lounge. It breaks my heart all the beautiful delft tiles will be removed. We think the lounge beautiful just as it is. :)

Will the large movie screen not be installed in April?

I don't think so, Jade. That was part of the refit they did on Veendam/Rotterdam at the Retreat. They are not going to build the Retreat on Maasdam so I don't think she'll get the large movie screen....... I certainly hope not.
Anyone heard different than that?

I think the show lounge is so elegant on the Maasdam. I can't imagine why they're changing it. Was that the idea of the person(s) who added the wading pool to the Veendam?

While I haven't sailed all of HAL's ships, I think the Maasdam's show lounge to be the nicest I've seen. The chairs are especially comfortable and there are no poles to obstruct the view. Why would they be redoing it?
Can someone answer that for us?

In a nutshell, because the lounge, after the "do-over", fits in better with (is a part of) the "Showroom at Sea" concept that is presently being offered on MADM's three "S " class sisters + Rotterdam

My guess would be yes! ;) Perhaps the same person(s) who decided to eliminate the trays in the Lido!

The Captain told me at a cocktail party last week that he had been told they are taking out the escalators, adding some cabins there, but taking out some cabins somewhere else, so there won't be any change in the number of cabins, just in location.
I will miss the escalator, although admittedly, it's probably under utilized!
It would be nice to have pizza, etc near the aft pool, since it's on a lower deck than the Lido, and I saw people trying to nagivate the stairs to the pool with both hands full of food and glasses. One young lady fell on the stairs and broke her ankle on our cruise. She was taken off the ship since it was in port, and rejoined us (in a wheelchair) on a later island.

The other change to the initial announcement is that the Maasdam will finish a Southern Caribbean itinerary on April 8 and then probably sail to Freeport later that day or the next for dry dock. I imagine various crews will get on the ship in Ft Lauderdale to start some work as soon as the passengers clear the ship.

Hi Kathi!
I knew she broke her ankle but didn't realize she left the ship to have it fixed, then rejoined us! She was with her mom and sister, I believe...very nice people.
I got lunch one day in the Lido to bring down to the Sea View Pool...one of the Lido crew insisted on carrying it down for me...I kept saying, "no, I'll manage," but he insisted!

Not being the steadiest on my feet, I was really careful when carrying things down there. It would be great to have a pizza/salad/fruit bar back there, wouldn't it? I DO love the fact that they always have ice water and cups at that pool, and near the burgers, at the "inside Lido pool" there is water and iced tea. It's amazing how just having alternate free drink spots can keep people from getting into a people bottleneck. You can't sit in the sun without something to drink, and early in the day, I just don't want to drink alcohol. It makes me sleepy!

It was great having iced tea and water available from the Bar staff! As you know, post-surgery, I'm not so steady on my feet either. Guess the Lido folks watch out for people with canes as I was using...especially on sea days. Hopefully by the time our next cruise rolls around, I'll be cane-free!
