We are planning to go to the eastern carribean on the Eurodam and MAYBE booking a category VT on the observation deck. Do they have a private retreat area just for the VT cabins for lounging? I was told that it was one of the advantages of staying in a VT. I know you have to pay for a private cabana but I really didn't want to pay extra.I was hoping there was an area JUST for the cabins on the observation deck that you can use that doesn't cost extra. Thanks for any help!

Sorry, no. :( But since they are "spa" staterooms:

Spa Suites & Staterooms

Opt for the serenity of a new Spa Suite or Stateroom, featuring modern spa amenities such as yoga mats, an iPodŽ docking station, and a countertop water feature in-room. Also available are exclusive spa treatments from the nearby Greenhouse Spa and Salon.

The VT cabins do not have a private area. They are very near the Retreat cabana area, but do not have access unless one is rented. There is a little used area on the deck above the VT cabins for lounging, but it is available to all passengers.

If you plan on spending more time on the ship vs. shore excursions the cabana is worth it. We sailed 12/11/10 and had a cabana. The wife and I thought it was worth the expense. There is a little more to the story but it was worth it, especially if like to be pampered. Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

I will also chime in and echo the last post. If you have the opportunity to book a retreat cabana, you are sure to enjoy it. We had one for a B2B on Nieuw Amsterdam and it was a great place to spend the day.

We had a retreat cabana on Eurodam and have booked one for our upcoming cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam. They are fantastic and worth every penny. Made our holiday!

VT doesn't have any special area, and the verandahs are those useless rounded ones without room for a chair. We had a VQ down one deck with a full verandah and it was very convenient to our cabana in the Retreat. Having the Retreat lessens the need for a verandah, but it was nice having both and sitting out there (verandah) the evening we were in San Juan til 11pm.

Just back from Eurodam, the Retreat was the best part of the trip for us, well worth the money :) We had Romeo and Jayson as our cabana boys and they were wonderful, free flowing champagne, mimosa's with fresh oj, chocolate covered strawberries. Very quite, great for us as we did not like the smoke at the aft pool and the crowded kid area at the lido pool.

I don't mind children in the retreat area if they are supervised - actully it can be kind of fun to watch and listen and see what they like about cruising. Smokers, however, are a different matter. Cigarette smoke in quantity makes me quite ill! Is smoking allowed in the retreat cabanas? Is it windy enough to blow most of the smoke away?
