We are thinking about a long cruise on the Rotterdam. Perhaps we'll take an inside H on the lower promenade deck. Or an H, with a porthole, on Main.
Any comments from those with experience?

There are no "inside H" on the Lower Prom. All H are those with portholes on the Main. If you mean an outside HH on the L.P. I would take that over an H on Main because of the easy access to the promenade, and a much smoother ride than all the way forward and low. And a 2.5 ft by 3.5 ft window instead of a pair of portholes.
I would choose an HH aft of the aft elevator bank, but not 3424 or 3433 because of the stairs outside. (The HH in the 3380 to 3389 range are below the galley, so you could get some overhead noise at night.)

Thank you. As I said, my choices at this point are an inside "J" or portholed "H." I'm still looking and will make up my mind sometime next month.
Ours will be a 30-day cruise and I want to weigh the pluses and minuses of a given cabin, its size and location. Some of the "Hs" are huge; I know the drawbacks.
I have never gone the guaranteed route and don't think I ever will. I have heard enough pots and pans on a previous cruise and don't want to end up in a location that I don't control and be happy with.

HH obstructed view usually of tenders. I have done this twice! the last time
the tender was being repaired so there were workmen outside my window all
the time! When they weren't there it was like having a balcony because they left the canvas covers up. Lots of sunshine all the way through the Panama Canal. I now do Inside "I" because it gets me as a solo traveler out of my cabin and into activities and stuff.

Not on the Rotterdam, which is the ship the OP referenced. Not on any of the S- or R-class ships. You must have been on a Vista or Signature class ship.
On the Rotterdam, the obstruction is the ship's superstructure across the promenade. Usually, you can look left or right and see the sea and sky.

You didn't mention the J-cabins. Perhaps there was a typo?
The J-cabins between the forward and mid-ship elevators, on Lower Promenade, are very nice cabins. Location, size---both excellent. No noise that I've ever noticed.

We must stop meeting like this. Can't remember but we must have been on some cruises together although I am pretty sure we never met.
Anyway, we will have a lower promenade "J" on the Veendam next month for 28 days and then an even longer voyage on the Nieuw Amsterdam, where the Main deck "Js" are even bigger.
Although I have never had a "J" before I like them being so close to the promenade, which we regard as our wraparound balcony.
