The Vaandam was supposed to be in dry dock in January. Did it really go into dry dock as scheduled? If so, what was done to it? Rennovations? New carpet? Changes to rooms? Other changes? Thanks!

Do you mean Zaandam or Veendam? :) Or is this truly the "lost" HAL ship? :p

The Zaandam was in drydock and refurbished in January. Neptune Lounge was added, along with new bedding, carpet, draperies, etc. in cabins, plus other items. For photos of the "new look" to the cabins, check out HAL's website.

about the mysterious "Vaandam" several weeks ago. Either HAL is very good about keeping her secret or someone is in a parallel universe.
Come clean HAL, where is she?

Maybe she's referring to the HAL ship just commissioned to alleviate air conditioning problems ... the Faandam. ;)

Seriously: Are you referring the the ZAANDAM or the VEENDAM? The former currently sails out of Port Canaveral and the latter currently sails out of Tampa.

Newswire:
Seattle, WA 2/14/05
Holland America Line has announced plans to compete with the Mega Ship cruise lines by creating a new hybid that has never been tried before. The stern of the Veendam will be chopped off and mated to the Zaandam whose bow has been chopped off. New technology allows the "chop and stretch" concept that was applied to the old Westerdam to be modernized into a process which can now join two ships together. The cruise schedule for the newly christened "Vaandam" will be published once sea trials have been completed. If all goes well with the Vaandam (who's god father will Jean Claude Van Daam) Holland America plans to go ahead with project "Stolendam", project "Rynotterdam", and project "Maasterdam" in 2006.
Ok, I apololgize for that but just could not resist. :)
Back to the question at hand, to which ship are you referring to?

Hey, let's not forget the "I don't give a DAM" :p
Sorry, I couldn't resist either... my bad!

Thanks for the news, have you heard anything about plans for the Damndam, nicknamed "ship of Fools"?
I loved the rynotterdam, at least we'd be down to one "R". The new mugs are very confusing with the Alphabetdam logos.... R-dam, Z-dam etc.
Cool post,

All this because someone misspelled Veendam.

Well I guess I started this abuse with my misspelling/missreading of my own post a couple of weeks ago. Thanks Grannynurse for the heads-up! I'm glad I'm not the only one who needs to see the Zaandam renamed "Vaandam"- for simplicity of course. 8 years of college down the drain! Can't read, can't type! I guess I'll just cruise!!! :D

All this because someone misspelled Veendam.
Actually, all this because someone misspelled Zaandam. OP came back with the same question in a different posting the next day and stated he would be sailing on the Zaandam.

Hey, we had fun with your misspelling. It made us reach down into our sometimes fading bag of humor.
Thank you,
It's part of what makes this board fun.
