Well, I got home today to find my promised replacement Picture CD for the one which I bought from the photo shop on the Insignia on the 12/17 sailing. As I posted here before, the CD was a Power Point for Windows slide show format. I had asked at least three times if it would work on my MAC, and was assured it would. I have been in contact with the Miami office and was assured they would have the ship make up a new one which would work. Well, it doesn't! It is exactly the same format as the first one! I am really angry now about this matter. Either they are incompetent or con artists in the Insignia Photo shop! Mine was not the only complaint about this matter from that sailing. Why they couldn't save the pictures in the same format as what is used in the computer lab (at half the price) is a mystery to me. Why not use JPEG which I believe will open on a PC or MAC?
Everything else about the cruise was wonderful, but this is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. They already said I could get my money refunded, but I want the picures NOT the money!

Digby,

If you know someone who has a PC, they could extract the images as JPG files from the powerpoint presentation. It would be a bit tedious, but it could be done. I agree that it would be nice to get some of the photos that were not possible for most of us (e.g., photos of Insignia in Antarctica from the rescue boat, etc.). When I was told that they had been downsized to 640x516 resolution, I decided that they would not be worth it for me. If you still want them, I'm sure there is a way to extract them, though.

I have a neighbor who is going to give it a try although I feel badly that she will have to spend so much time correcting what should have been done correctly the first time and most especially the second time.

Thanks for the link. I have already downloaded that program, but it won't open the files. I wonder why it has not be updated since '98? My best hope seems to be my neighbor who is working on the problem. I called Oceania this morning and left yet another voice message with the news about the 'new' CD.

So sorry to hear of the ongoing battle for a good picture CD from Oceania. I emailed Oceania myself to ask about getting a replacement CD. No answer, of course. I also emailed the ship; no answer. Just one more thing to add -- I'm a PC, not a Mac user and although I can view the photos in PowerPoint Slideshow format, it is impossible to extract the original JPG images as someone has suggested, because the CD file can only be opened in read-only format (that is, automatic slideshow format) unless one has the PASSWORD with which the file is protected. If someone wanted to come up with a way to maximize customer inconvenience and annoyance with this CD product, they couldn't have come up with a better format.

There's usually always a way around any type of PASSWORD or PROTECTION..(that's what make it fun). :D

How big is this CD? Make an ISO of it, and upload it to my server, I'm sure I can give it a go to extract whatever you'd like off of it into a readable format...provided the CD itself isn't physically damaged.

The problem is still not solved by Oceania. I talked today with the woman who I thought was dealing with this - after 3 weeks of leaving voice mail and NO return calls. I have been passed to another woman who is supposedly dealing with the problem. I'm still waiting for her call.

My neighbor has been able to save each image as a jpg file which I can open, but evidently that is beyond the computer Einsteins at Oceania. How can service be so good while on board and so terrible on land? Very disappointing!

Today FedEx delivered my 3rd version of the picture CD from the 12/17 Insignia sailing in South America/Antarctica. As I posted before, the other versions would not work on my MAC even though I asked at least three times before buying it from the photo shop if it would and being told it certainly would. This time the CD had both the PowerPoint for Windows version which won't open and also all the pictures saved as jpg. files which I can open. This is the solution I mentioned to the 'customer service' person two months ago. The most frustrating part of this saga was not getting the courtesy of a return phone call for weeks after leaving 3 or 4 voice messages. This aspect of Oceania needs MAJOR improvement! Next time, I'll check the version on a computer lab machine BEFORE leaving the ship. The pictures are great, by the way.

Glad to hear that you have made some progress!

I'm curious as to what resolution was provided for the jpg files (e.g., 640x512, or ?).

I don't know. How do I determine that? (I'm new to digital photos.)
