After watching her again in Laura I searched for her name on Google and found a web site called the Gjenvick-Gjønvik Archives.
It had a List of Passengers on the Veendam from Rotterdam to New York in September 1937
and Gene and her brother Howard were aboard from Southhampton. She was 17.

My Dad used to sail on HAL and amongst his papers I found a passenger list showing Claudette Colbert's name. Dad did have a chat with her. Alas I forgot which ship and what year, but it had to be between 1948 and 1955.

I was only nine at Laura's release. I fell instantly in love with Gene Tierney. Her killer overbite was irresistable!!:)

Laura was an excellent example of its genre, with a great cast.

I adored her in "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir".

You beat me to it, Kakalina! As great as "Laura" was, "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" is in my top ten list of favorite movies. Which is no surprise, considering my CC name. Unfortunately, I don't look a thing like Gene Tierney, though my mother resembled her and was a beauty in her own right. She still is, at age 89.
