My daughter is interested in trying scuba diving. I thought I might let her take the Discover Scuba excursion through HAL on St. Thomas. Does anyone have any details and/or experience with this excursion?

My Husband (scuba certified) thought this would be a great way to introduce our 11 year old son to scuba diving on our recent Christmas Cruise on the Zaandam. My son loved it. It was a great program and gave him a real taste of what scuba diving is all about. Since we have gotten home we are looking into getting him certified at a local dive shop. He really enjoyed it. My husband used the course as a refresher since it had been a while since his last dive.

Thanks for the input Beth. I'm also a certified diver. I don't need the refresher, but may go through the course just to oversee.

I'm thinking about booking this excursion in PV. How much time is spent in the water, vs learning on land? I've done Snuba before and am looking forward to trying Scuba!

I did this excursion in St. Croix off the Maasdam in 2000. I thought it was an excellent experience with safe diving being the overriding concern. I had a ball! Not having done any SCUBA before I have nothing to compare it to, but I would do that excursion again in the E. Caribbean, ie, warm water! :)
