Are the lounge chairs around the aft pool comfortable or hard? Some ship chairs are so hard that I have to take a small pillow with me to the pool...back problems. I prefer the type chairs that "give" when you recline.;)
Also, every photo I see of this area shows the chairs all in a row and straight. Are passengers allowed to turn the chairs in the direction of the sun?

Best I remember, chairs are the soft kind. But then I don't have back problems & don't have that info permanently ingrained in my memory bank....The chairs certainly move around a lot, if you can find room to move it to. I always the area was rather tight, but then again, HAL wants to get as many lounge chairs there as possible. There are also a few tables and chairs around but the tables are a little more difficult to move around....Plenty of pool towels available....
Happy cruising.....

How early do folks get to the aft pool deck to occupy the chairs? Do people sun bath around the forward of the 2 pools? Do they have stewards come around to the pool deck to take food and drink orders?

I think this really depends on a number of factors. Weather, port, pax demographics and itinerary probably have a significant impact. On Zuiderdam, in April, the pools where pretty much abanadoned while in ports. When at sea, it seemed like things started to get crowded pretty early in the morning in nice weather. Our second at sea day was rainy in the morning. The midship pool had the roof closed and was packed. No one at the aft pool, obviously. The only day we spent any time in and around the pool was in port at Nassau. As far as Nassau was concerned, been there, done that, several times. We just stayed on board and relaxed at the deserted pools.
I'd plan on an early start while at sea in good weather. There were plenty of stewards in the pool area. Amadeo was our cabana steward on HMC and also worked the pool deck. He was super good guy.

Plenty of pool towels available....
So there are no towel "rules" with HAL? We can have as many as we like?
If so, I can forget the pillow and use rolled up towels for my back...if needed.
On RCCL, passengers get one towel in your stateroom. If you loose it...you pay for it. You can exchange it for a clean towel through your room steward or at the pool.

(Just lost my response - is it my computer, ISP or CC boards?? Will try again.)
The only towel rule is to place you used towels in the used towel bin when leaving. No limit on taking new towels--seems like they never run out.
For those real sunworshipers, there are also lounge chairs just above the Lido deck. Just take your towels up there....
For Heyabbott: Tim is correct, plenty of pool wait staff. However, they do not take food orders. That is strictly self-serve either stuff from the Lido buffet, ice cream station, pizza station, pool grill, taco fixins, etc....
Happy cruising.....

Oh, fun! I can get 30 towels and place them on all chairs at 7:00am. Saved for the day as I sunbathe on my own private pool. Oh, just making fun at the OTHER cruise lines. I read about this on another board and thought - TACKY!!!!:D

Vista class AFT lounge chairs - they are the white plastic with very little give to the canvas - no pads. This way they can stack and unstack them quickly.
I find them very uncomfortable and have to brace my back with towels.

Ugh! That's the kind they had on the Serenade. Back to the foam pillow! Those chairs give a real ache to the tail bone. :o

One deck up there are the comfy teak chairs with pads, its not around the pool, but you'll have most of the area to yourself. We were on the repositioning cruise with alot of sea days, I never had trouble finding a place to sun around the aft pool so you really don't have to worry about chair hogs on HAL (and yes you can take a ton of towels, they place one towel on each chair every morning and you just grab a couple more for your back). There is room to move the chairs around. Enjoy!!!

Thanks! Are the teak chairs really that comfortable? I love the looks of those old fashion chairs and don't mind being away from the pool.;)

The teak chairs are really nice but last week on the Westerdam we sailed to the Eastern Carribean and when we went up to the upper deck we almost went flying off the deck. If you sat in the chairs, you felt like you and the chair were going to fly off the deck into the sea. It sure was windy the whole time we were sailing!

That was not a problem after many days at sea and many trips to the Lido it would take more than a little wind for me to fly anywhere!!
