Well, we did it. DW and I think we found a reliable companion for our aging Golden Retriever, so we took the proverbial plunge into the bucket list and signed on for a tour of duty aboard Ryndam on August 7th.

I don't know very much about the ports of call: Bergen, Alesund, Flam, Stavenger. Can anyone recommend the best excursions in those ports? Also, any observations about Ryndam would be appreciated. We begin with two nights in London - dropping in on the newlyweds , and then hopefully Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, etc. We've been in London once before, and did the Tower, Thames cruise, and general tour. If we don't get to Harrod's this trip, my DW says there will be a war!

Thanks in advance for any information.

You might want to visit the Ports of Call section of Cruise Critic for lots of detailed info regarding shore excursions. I can highly recommend the train ride in Flam. Stunning scenery with a stop at a nice waterfall.

I was in Bergan two summers ago. It is very walkable if you don't have mobility issues.

We opted to explore ourselves on foot!

We are doing the same ports as part of our Collector cruise in June on the Rotterdam. Our plan in Bergen is either go to Ulriken653 or the Flolbanen first thing. It will depend on the weather which one we choose. After than it is a couple museums (Natural History and Maritime) and than exploring the Bryggens area.

Alesund we are climbing the 412 steps up Aksla, going to the museum and possibly taking a public bus to Sunnmore.

Flam we are going on the Flaasmbana train first thing and than at noon taking zodiac boats up the fjords to Naeroyfjord.

Stavenger we don't have a lot of time so it will the petroleum Museum and the "old town".
