OK this is rather a silly question but we could get several answers ;) On a Large Suit Case with wheels and the suit case is standing up right do you place your luggage tags on the top handle or the side hand of your luggage?

If I print/make enough, I'll put a tag on both. But most of the time it's just on the "top" handle. (You're talking about the cruise tags, right?)

Yes, I am actually talking about the new HAL luggage tags that are the VIntage tags that were sent to three and four star Mariners. There are only 4 tags and we have three pieces of luggage. So not sure which handle, thinking I should place it on the top one.

Interesting.
Were these Vintage tags sent to all three and four star mariners?

Interesting.
Were these Vintage tags sent to all three and four star mariners? No, only those that had a cruise booked at the time they came out. They were an insert in a Mariner magazine. You can buy them now. $9.95 for a set of 4.

I'm a 2-Star Mariner (working hard towards the third!) and luckily I had a cruise booked so I received the luggage tags! :) Thanks HAL!

Another Canuck who gets the magazine and received the tags. I always put on two airline tags and then before boarding the ship, I use two HAL tags---one on each handle. I have seen tags torn off in the past.

I think the airlines have special machines dedicated to removing tags and sometimes locks right along with the zipper pulls.

We just put the tag on the top handle before we board the ship. Never had a problem - Sapper the airlines don't have machines dedicated to removing tags and wrecking luggage - they have people that do that ;)

Well if they had machines they could remove more tags and wreak more havoc. :)

I know, but the union won't permit automation. :D

I also make a copy of the tag and put it in one of the outside pockets - just in case.

Personally I put a luggage tag on both handles, the top and the side, but I don't use the "vintage" luggage tag holders HAL sent out. For one they're pretty flimsy and two, you can only see the passenger information from one side. I guess if I did I'd put those on what I consider the top handle. We fly in the day before a cruise and put the tags on our luggage when we're ready to go to the terminal and I can only remember maybe once or twice when a bag has arrived in our cabin sans tags. It happens, even with the old style tags HAL used to mail out before e-docs and luggage tags. Somewhere in my thousands of pictures I actually have a couple of photos I took from our veranda while in Ft Lauderdale and the dock was littered with tags. Point is that I do the best I can without making the luggage tags "bullet proof" and so far my luggage, with or without tags, has made it to my cabin. :)

LOL, you're lucky...my TA never sends me luggage tags! ;) I never did get those vintage ones either...bummer.

Lisa, I put my luggage tags on the top of a rolling suitcase...while it's in upright position.

Lisa, it doesn't matter which handle....as the bags go around the airport carousel you can usually see both sides. I'm surprised at how many people do not put their stateroom number printout in the tag. I think that is one of the benefits, in that you can slip it in on top of your name and address.

Somewhere in my thousands of pictures I actually have a couple of photos I took from our veranda while in Ft Lauderdale and the dock was littered with tags.I took a picture once of a lot of bags by the elevator on our floor with many of the paper staple-on tags badly mangled and barely hanging on. The ones without tags probably hadn't reached our floor yet! :)

Mrs. K was just looking over my shoulder and popped me on the back of the head....a love tap....about my luggage tags. She reminded me that when we were in Home Depot a couple of weeks ago I showed her some stainless steel cable zip ties and mused if I ought to get those for our luggage tags. She remarked that the bag may not make it but we'd at least get the luggage tag. Geez..... :D Of course, I was kidding her at the time and just picked up the regular plastic ties. :) OK...I fess up...I have printed our luggage tags for the Maasdam cruise on light card stock and punched a hole at one end and will attach those to our bags with the zip ties....still not "bullet proof" but they ought to make it.

I don't think it really matters. The porters at the dock will see the tags on any of the handles. I never put the cruise tags on until we are at the city of embarkation. Before leaving the hotel to go to the ship, I borrow a stapler from the front desk and staple the tags on to our bags. If you fly in the same day, the porters at the ship dock can staple them for you.

After printing out the luggage tags, I pop them into a laminating machine. Attaching those to a suitcase with a plastic zip-tie just before departing for the ship is a snap. I usually attach the tags to whichever handle seems to me to be least likely to be used by someone to pick up the bag.

Sheila, before that next cruise of yours you will just have to remind that TA iof yours to send you some luggage tags. ;) :D
Since HAL no longer has those nice blue document folders sent out TA's can no longer include their luggage tags :o
But I am sure if you ask you will get some :)

We like our vintage tags so much that we always put them inside our suitcases for fear of losing them.....

I think that you should put them in both places. Also, tape them to the top and sides of your suitcase and finally put a copy inside of the suitcase. That should cover all possible bases.
