I just decided to hop on board the Zuiderdam with only 2 days notice!!!! This was not an easy decision.

I have been booked for months on a ski vacation to the Canyons resort in Park City Utah when I received some very bad news from an MRI I had done on Wednesday. My orthopedic surgeon told me that my back is so damaged that I risk partial paralysis if I fall while skiing. Something about ruptured disks and something else...I have it written down somewhere. Needless to say, I'm seeing another specialist in a couple of weeks and I may have surgery.

I was so depressed...I had to do something,...go somewhere. So was lucky to find a spot on the Z-dam available. Must have been a cancellation because it's usually hard to find the Penthouse suite. Believe me, there were no last minute deals on this.

So the weird thing is, today I will be unpacking all my ski equipment and packing summer stuff.

This is so last minute. Anyway, I'm very excited as I loved the Oosterdam in October and now my husband and son get to join me on this one (instead of my mom last time) so this will be new for them.

Looking forward in hearing from others. But you have all probably left!

I am sorry about your back, but you only have one back, take care of the one you have. A cruise, I think that's a perfect way to substitute your ski trip with a nice, relaxing caribbean cruise with wonderful food, great service and some wonderful activities.

Have a wonderful time.

From the posts on this board, at least you know your back will be resting comfortably on the new bedding. Take care and have a great cruise.

Happy you were able to get a booking and have a wonderful vacation to enjoy. You are VERY wise to take the advise you were given. It would have been silly to take such a big risk.

Hope you all have a great time.....Of course, you will. She's a great ship.
Enjoy that fabulous Suite. (Hope you can figure out all the light switches; we never did on Rotterdam. :) )

So sorry about your back and your ski trip. My brother is out there now with his family. I worry so much when they ski. Good thing you found your trouble before your ski trip. I haven't skiied in years.
I have had terrible disk trouble lately and right now, my entire head is numb! I hope I can make my cruise next week. Getting ready to call the doctor to get checked out and some anti inflammatory meds.
WOW...the Penthouse...Have a great cruise! :)

Zuiderdam has the new bedding already? I don't read these boards a lot so pardon my ignorance.

The Penthouses and "S" Suites have the new bedding. I don't think the rest of the ship does yet.....but I could be mistaken.

So sorry to hear about your back problems.:o

I am sure that you will be wonderfully pampered in the Penthouse suite though and you will have to let us know how wonderful it is to sit in the hot tub on your private balcony and watch the seas roll by. Enjoy your trip and pamper your back!!!!:)

Safe seas and blue skies:cool:

That's certainly one great benefit from living in FLL ... your ability to go at a moment's notice without having to worry with airlines. I'm sure you're disappointed at missing your ski vacation, but how wonderful the Caribbean will be this time of year. Enjoy!

Well..we were on Zuiderdam in inside stateroom in August.

Bedding was wonderful alreday. I think new bedding is a part of SOE and Zuiderdam has SOE installed.

Not only did you make lemonade out of those lemons, but you added a nice shot of 151 rum, a slice of pineapple and a cherry on top!

Flgirl,

Sorry to hear about your back. You are wise not to ski. One of my friends at work has had similar problems, but unfortunately he has been in hospital for a month now having had the prolapsed disk removed. He's got partial paralysis, but his prolapse was the worst his surgeon had ever seen. He's gradually improving, but it seems a slow process, but his doctors think he will walk again. I don't think he heeded the warning signs as you are so sensibly doing.

Have a wonderful trip and enjoy the Penthouse - it will be wonderful.

Thanks my fellow CCrs for your response!

I was soooo depressed yesterday because living here in Ft Lauderdale...well, being in snow is just about the most heavenly thing I can think of! I just couldn't go to Park city and NOT ski. My rotton personality makes me want to take risks and I cannot take risks with my back!

BTW, my back went out on my Oosterdamn cruise in Oct. I was holding my baby in my arms (she's not going on this cruise) and dodging waves in Tortola which seemed rather high. I got knocked over a bit and threw out my back.

I went to the infirmery and the DR there was great. He gave me great painkillers which allowed me to function and enjoy my cruise. I had no idea how bad my back was ...but it is caused by lots of falls while ice skating over the years.

Well, now I know. I'm sure I'll have a great time on this ship and I hope really to relax.

Thanks for the kind words. And yes, it is wonderful living in Ft laud...no planes to catch! But really.....I must be missing something because there are no last minute deals!!!! The best deal is being able to take all the cr*p I want and not have to worry about airline limitations!!!!
