I am considering a Jan 2006 cruise on one of these ships.

We have sailed the Celebrity Infinity and Constellation before and loved it, but noticed the the menu hadn't changed much (especially in the specially restaurants).

We 40 year old professionals living in the midwest.

We rank ships based on:

1. Posh service. We like being pampered.
2. Cuisine
3. Health Club / Healthy activities (love the Aqua Spa on Celebrity)
4. Entertainment

Ummmm - this IS the HAL board...
:)

I've never been on X, but I understand that they rank neck and neck for service, comfort, etc. esp. if you book yourself into one of HAL's Deluxe Suites (S category).

As far as which ship, I think you're on the right track by looking into HAL's Westerdam to give you the closest thing to the experience you enjoyed on X's Millie-Class ships. If the itinerary doesn't suit you, the 1 year older Oosterdam is also a very good choice

We just recently switched from the Millennium to the Oosterdam because, after having been on the Millie, we decided to try something new instead.
loved the Millennium and it was probably our favorite cruise. I don't need to tell you all the "extras" that Celebrity does and oh how I loved the solarium. ;)

Anyway, if you can wait a little over a week, I can give you a comparison as we leave a week from tomorrow for the Oosterdam. :)

Have been on both Millenium several years ago and Westerday in January. The only way to go is Category S on the Westerdam. I liked the thall. pool so the Westerdam offers a special price for the whole cruise which I took but found that their daily special to use the pool daily was less expensive. Enjoy.

Do you find that the S is worth $1,000.00/per couple more than the SS?

I don't think the S is worth that much more if you are not interested in the extra services. We don't care to have the Neptune Lounge, personal services or laundry services (I'd be afraid they would ruin something and don't want strangers doing my underwear either :D .) Also, some of the S suites are not much larger than the SS...depending on the locations and sometimes those locations are not ideal (for us anyway.)

However, if the price difference were within $250 - $500, and the location was perfect, I would consider it.

and am in the process of posting a full review. Hope it helps your decision, we are also 40ish professionals, so you might relate to our point of view. Hope to be finished posting the whole review by the end of this weekend.

It is under "Westerdam Review".

I'm perfectly happy in an SS, but I have an aft-corner S booked for Alaska.

Is it worth it? Totally depends on what's important for you.

What did the thall pool cost on the Westerdam? Also the costs compare like this: $1220 for CC class on X and $1500 for SS class or $1220 for VA class on Westerdam.
