I'll try to be brief here: I've booked a b2b on the Whisper out of Barbados (my first SS) -- 20 days of pampering! I have booked this cruise for major r&r (like many of us of course!) to hopefully recover from total burnout. I am concerned about major weight gain over 20 days in paradise :o.....I would like to implement a wellness program to not only address burnout and recharge my batteries, but also to at least keep myself from gaining too much - and hopefully lose a bit.......so..........how are the services in the gym/spa? yoga/pilates classes? Has anyone used the personal trainer? Anyone have tips to share about how you've been able to indulge in all of the wonderful food - but not have to be rolled off the ship at debark?

Heidik I've been cruising with SS since 1997 and I gain about 4 pounds on each cruise. I don't use the gym/fitness classes.
It's your choice. I eat 3 meals/day. For me, the seafood is always so good I tend to eat mostly that as entree -- portions of everything are sensible, small -- I have creme brulee for dessert almost every night (love it). And I drink wine with all meals --
I come home with about 4 extra pounds, which I lose in about 2-3 weeks of "normal" eating.
I once saw someone order two separate entrees -- served B2B -- I'm sure he paid the price.
Fear not -- you'll be able to "indulge in all the wonderful food" -- if you keep your head about you;)

Agree with dusababy. I leave my gym attire at home. I do walk up and down the stairs during the day and take an AM walk aound the jogging track. I drink white wine and stay away from the tutti-frutti drinks. For dessert, I like the low fat options. All in all, I eat what I want. Last cruise I only gained 2lbs in 10 days. You will be fine.:)
PS: Drink lots of water.

I work out every day, even on vacation because working out is just part of my daily routine. I don't feel well unless I get a workout in for the day. That said, on the Cloud, I gained 4 pounds in 10 days and I worked out every day. The fitness instructor on the Cloud was terrific and she worked out private clients throughout the cruise so I would say the Whisper probably has the same. I took her yoga and pilates whenever it was offered as well. I shudder to think how much weight I would have gained if I hadn't worked out! :D
Good luck and remember, if you pack on a few pounds, it will come off quickly once you return to your regular routine.

We are in our 60's. She ate everything in sight - several desserts at lunch, wine with lunch & dinner. He was only slightly more sensible. After 34 days, each gained only 2 pounds which was lost within a week of returning home. The secret this time was walking 1 hour per day on the deck. We also walked on shore any time we didn't have a shore excursion. It worked despite my fears of massive weight gain.

I'm sorry to say on my recent 3 cruises on SS, I was an absolute gutz ache and ate everything in sight as well as drink everything in sight. Unfortunately I put on 6kgs and I've been dieting ever since.
Next year I've got a very different plan. :)

Two options, eat and drink what you wish and have a lovely relaxing time, gain some weight and diet when you get home.
Or, eat and drink what you wish and spend at least an hour a day in the gym, walking around the deck, ignore the lifts, and go home at worst with no weight gain.
Either works, and starvation is not an option

I came home one pound less than when I left. I had been hoping for 3 lbs less so didn't succeed.
Cruise was 21 days but I was away from home for 29 days.
On the Spirit.
Worked out daily - either on the deck, in port or the treadmill. I preferred the treadmill. Never had trouble getting a machine but there were only 380/540 aboard. I prefer the exercise room on deck 6 to deck 10. Walked 15 km one day (skipped working out the next!)
The rule is always take the stairs up if under 4 flights. Stairs down at almost all times. Cabin was on deck 4 and the only time we took the lift was to deck 11 observation lounge from the suite and occasionally to the pool deck if we were very tired. The exception was when I was in a long gown and heels, then safety came first and we'd take the lift if more than one flight. (I'm too impatient to wait if it is less than a flight.)
I ate sensibly. It was easy to give up afternoon tea because it was at La Terazza and the lack of a 'real' piano (the keyboard being used didn't even have 88 keys) and being seated at a table rather than in easy chairs turned me off since we go to read and listen to the music.
Portions at dinner are small so I ate what I wanted. Breakfast is easiest if you order into the suite so you don't have to deal with the smell of the bacon which was very tempting. Lunch was the most difficult because my dh prefers the pool grill so I'd get a big salad from downstairs and carry it up to the pool side and have some fish along with it. There were lots of salad bars at the pool bar on this cruise but that might be a Spirit thing, since I've never seen that on the Whisper or Shadow.
The unlimited salad and cut fruit makes good choices always available.
We don't drink but I stuck with sparkling water after Lent started because I gave up carbonated-caffeinated drinks for Lent.
I gave up bread on a whim on the flight over to Hong Kong and managed to stick with that pretty well (had pizza twice and bread rolls with dinner 3x, they happily served our burgers without a bun.)
I just kept treating the trip as a fat-camp and that worked fine for me. There are always good choices available on SilverSea so just keep thinking about what healthy thing you want and then ask if you don't see it (i.e. I had a bowl of berries for dessert most nights.)

I admire your discipline Canadian Kate -- always empowering and results confirm.
