I have heard a soda card mentioned by several people on this board. I am unfamiliar with this. How does it work? How much does it cost?

Thank you.

Just got back from a cruise (Feb.5-12) on Veendam and some of the people in our group used the soda card. You can buy it when you're going through the paper process at embarkation or you can buy it on board at the lounges. The soda card was $35 (up from the $27.50 that is advertised on the HAL website) and that means you can have unlimited soda while on the cruise. However, it's not good for ordering a soda while you're in your stateroom. They have cans of soda in there and if you open one, you've bought it so remember that. The soda card is good everywhere OUTSIDE the stateroom. They put a Coke sticker on your passenger "key" that you'll carry with you (for ID purposes) and when you order your soda you just show them that. There's no additional 15% gratuity added to this either. The cost of soda was $2.75 each so you can do the math to figure out how many per day you need to make it worth the $35 cost. I stuck to iced tea and water.

Yes you do pay the 15% grat fee. We were on that cruise and bought 2 cards at $35 plus 15%.

Im leaving on the Maasdam on 3/10 and preordered my soda card through ship services. For 10 days its like 43, whatever is listed on the website. However, when I was speaking with the lady I asked her why I should purchase now instead of onboard and her response was that onboard Id have to pay the 15% charge. Just food for thought.

Keep in mind the soda card is good for fountain sodas only. They are coke, diet coke, ginger ale, club soda, sprite. But they are always squirted out of that thing at the bar. If you ever get a can you pay for it. We were told the card was good on Half Moon Cay but at the bar near us, they only had cans so we could not use it. Even so, I believe DH got his use out of it. Our wine steward in the dining room would bring him Cokes continuously during dinner without him asking!

We just got off the Oosterdam today and were able to get canned sodas using our soda card. This came in handy for re-stocking the mini-bar, which we raided on a few occasions :D

and we could get canned soda as well, but not on Half Moon Cay, only on the ship.

And soda was $1.75 + gratuity on the Westerdam, or so I thought.....we ordered the soda sticker before we left and paid a flat $27.50 but our traveling partners bought one in the embarkation line and paid $35 but no gratuity. go figure.

Has the price gone up, or is is just discounted if someone buys it before the trip?

7.50 for a 10 day difference in purchasing it seems awful steep to me.

But once our wine steward knew that 2 out of 4 of us at dinner had stickers she kept the coke and ginger ale flowing (very high seas and much queasy somach really made this a good thing) for all 4 of us. We also drank alcohol at dinner (wine, beer or martinis).

I know that they are good for soda but how about cranberry juice or any other kind of juice? The other lines we have cruised with offered this option.:)

All juices are free.

I had pineapple, cranberry, apple, orange, grapefruit, and they were all already complimentary on the Westerdam.

Is that just in the dining areas or is it free from any of the bars?
