:):)For those whole follow these threads, Thank you so very much for all your help. I posted a while back about changing from Carnival to Holland America for a trip to Panama. My original concern was the seemingly prevailing attitude that, HOLLAND AMERICA IF FOR THE NEARLY DEAD.........WRONG. We sailed in January and had a great time. If this is getting older? I can hardly wait. Seniors rock. We had a blast and were never bored.
As a result we saw a deal on the Zuiderdam to Alaska, needed to take time off for fiscal year end. WELL Bon Voyage , here we sail again. Holland America, there is something for everyone. Thanks for the change of mind, you now have our loyalty. Happy Sailing Everyone.

You know, life is what you want to make of it. I've seen some pretty "dead" 30 somethings and then again I've seen almost 80 year olds dance and drink me under the table. So there you go :D
Enjoy your upcoming Alaskan cruise - it is truly a stunning place!

Welcome back! Alaska is marvelous, truly stunning in every direction. If you can afford an aft cabin, grab it. First morning during the inside passage, we opened the door and inhaled the marvelous scent of pine. Reminded us of the live Christmas trees of our youth.
You will love this cruise! Am I envious or what? ;)

Why does this sound so familiar?? Duh, This is exactly what happened to us too. We now no longer leave one HAL ship without signing up for the next one. And one of them was Zuiderdam Alaska too. Wonderful ship for this trip and she had the best food in the main dining room of any HAL ship we have been on so far. Great choice and welcome to HAL. Many happy returns.

Both were aboard Zuiderdam. I am so happy one of my co-workers steered me to HAL in the first place.:)
Glad you had such a great time. Hope you have many more in the future.
Cheers!

Your post made me laugh! We took our first cruise on HAL because we found an itinerary that was too good to pass up - the British Isles cruise. It was amazing, and we were on Prinsendam, so it was a smaller ship. We were hooked. On our next cruise, our table mates looked at us and told us we were too young to be on HAL. We thanked them for the compliment but explained we were not too young for the itinerary.
HAL provides a wonderful product - excellent service, thought provoking itineraries and great amenities. Forgive me if I choose to cruise HAL now instead of waiting!

We are beginning to sound like a broken record! My first HAL cruise was also to Alaska at age 55, the next one was to New Zealand, then the Caribbean and now we are going to Northern Europe. They have won me over too!

I am glad you had a good time. HAL has that reputation of being for the old folks. And the cruise you took you will not find many Children on beause it is a mit more dear than the Caribbean cruises and children are nomally out of school that long and many younger people do have children and no one to baby sit them while they go on a cruise like that.
However, that being said, seniors or near seniors are a joy to be around. Perhaps, because I am 71 myself it doesn't bother me. I remember when HAL was 125 years old and people were saying at that time "you might run into some of the original cruisers. I was not true then and it is still not true. HAL is just a great line and I am happy you had a great time and a great cruise.

Hey---we "old geezers" have had a LOT of practice at partying....we know how to do it! Never think that just because someone is a bit older, that they don't know how to have fun!!!

We old geezers can also show young people the art of quiet contemplation and that snoozing in the sun with the sea breezes in your hair (hair?) is often the best antidote for the stresses of daily living. Lazy wind-down time is something we geezers can also teach young people too.

And we also read books...
But seriously, one of the joys doing On Deck For The Cure walk was seeing folks of all ages, some slow, others swift, doing something together.
