Who is permitted to use the hydro pool? Do you need to book or pay to enter this spa area? How much does it cost? Is it part of the thermal spa?I am having problems researching this on the HAL web site...
Any help will be appreicated!
Thanks

When we were on there over Thanksgiving, you could use the hydro pool with the day-pass to the spa - which is, I think, the thermal spa package (and it also includes the heated stone chairs - which were always full on sea days). I would recommend calling as soon as you can once you board if you're only doing a day-to-day thing. It was somewhat worth it for me and my wife since we enjoy the pool, but didn't feel like trying to cram ourselves into the pool full of kids on the sea days (or the hottubs chock full of adults). The day-passes are limited in number so you don't have to worry too much about overcrowding at least in the hydro pool - good luck with the heated stone seats though. The relaxation room is great too, but we didn't use any of the workout equipment either.

The cost of the pass for a week was $125 for a single. I think--not 100% certain--that for a couple the cost was $175. Rarely was the thermal suite's ceramic beds totally full during the week I was aboard. If they were, one could use the steam room or sauna or one of the aromatherapy showers and/or go to the relaxation room until a bed is available. The hydortherapy pool, in my opinion, is one of the best features on the Vista and Signature Class ships.

The daily pass is $40 per day as of last week on the Nieuw Amsterdam.

All adults can use if you pay. Last time on 16 days TransAtlantic on Noordam it cost $199 for couple. It worked great except a bit too much chlorine. It also comes with the use of heated ceramic chaise in persian garden and steam room. The heated chaises were a bit of a trick since they are occupied all the time. You need to inform the attendant to chase some old trolls out if they stay their too long:eek:
I'm looking forward to it on my TransAtlantic crossing on Nieuw Amsterdam in a few days.

Wow - that seems pretty reasonable to me. I guess we are on the same cruise - April 3rd Nieuw Amsterdam. If $199 is the cost, I'll see you in the hydro pool.

I thought the $199 was too good to be true. Checked with HAL and they want $499 for the 15 day Nieuw Amsterdam transatlantic. Maybe, they will have a special on board.

No. The gym and all the equipment are free. The threadmills are really nice with individual TV's attached - you will need some portable earphones to plug into the TV if you want to hear the sound. The thermal suite is very nice but $499 is just too much.

They likely will not get many takers at $499. From past experience (20 day T/A on the N/A last fall) you can probably get a better deal once on board. The spa is operated by a third party (Steiner, I think). Meet with spa manager and play "Let's Make a Deal", they have the power to modify the price and they need to make revenue goals and budget for each cruise. Do it in private, in a professional manner and you might be surprised at the result. If successful, don't broadcast your win, be discrete.
