We are interested in a cruise in January 2011. We are assuming it is sold out as all categories say "call for price.".
Assuming that is correct, does HAL make a waitlist? and if so, how does that work?
Is a deposit taken to go on waitlist? Can one get on a waitlist for a category cabin? I am guessing that there will be some who drop out by final payment.
Thanks in advance,
~TC

We are interested in a cruise in January 2011.
Do you mean January, 2012?
It seems a long way out to be completely sold out.

i am surprised that a cruise is all sold out this many months in advance
wonder if there is going to be a large group on board
what ship are you considering?

If the cruise is that far out, I would check it again in a few months. If it still looks sold out, it is likely because it has a really large group booked or has been chartered, with only a few cabins that might be sold to individuals. Before you book, I would ask that question and be specific! If the the ship has a big group or a charter, you might want to be on a different cruise. Large groups tend to take over the common areas and you could feel like you don't really belong on the ship.
Mrs Banjo & I found ourselves in this situation on a different cruise line, we still had fun, but many times we had to change our plans because the group took over the area where we wanted to be.;)

The Veendam does South America in our winter time frame. I notice that for the Dec 20th cruise from Buenos Aires to Valapariso, the S class shows Call us and for the Jan 6th cruise from Valapasiso back to Buenos Aires, all classes (as you said) show call us. Perhaps many people do round trips from BA and thus HAL saves space on the second cruise for this possibility. This is supposition. If it were me and I really wanted this cruise, I would call and see what is available. Let us know what you find out, if you call.

Just asked our TA to call for us and find out. Has anyone waitlisted before and did you make a deposit? Was it refundable?

We wait listed for the Noordam a few years ago, made a deposit, but canceled when it was getting too late to get air. Hal returned the deposit ,no problem.

Sorry to hear you can't waitlist for the cruise you want. Did you speak to HAL direct?
If I were you, I would keep an eye out for availability. We have cancelled several cruises that were booked well ahead of time as circumstances changed and we decided on other cruises.
Good luck!!!

For my Amazon cruise in Nov./09, I was told in April /09 that the cruise was sold out - I went on a wait list. In August, spaces opened up, but the price had gone up. Later on, the price came down a bit, and we were able to get on the cruise.
For another cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam for a Mediterranean cruise, we were on a waiting list. One space opened up, as we were at the top of the wait list, but due to personal health problems at the time we couldn't take it. We then were put on the bottom of the wait list, and didn't get another offer.
I would keep checking various cruise travel agency websites, including HAL's; people cancel all the time for various reasons, and the waitlist may open up or actual availability may occur.
