I am a 32 yo French-Canadian woman who loves to cruise but I have never cruised on Holland America.
I am contemplating a Canada-New England cruise in May (good deal and I don't have to fly) but I would like to know if the Maasdam has a good bridge program (including bridge play sessions with fellow passengers). If they do, I think I would enjoy the Maasdam even if I understand that I won't be their typical passenger (younger than average and travelling solo) but since I enjoy good leisurely dinner with great tablemates, I like dressing up on formal nights and also working out in the gym. If they also have bridge, I don't think I could get bored (especially on a port-intensive itinerary as the one I am looking at).
Please, tell me they have bridge at least a few times per cruise.

I can't say one way or the other for your cruise, but, if it is over seven days there should be a Bridge Director on board.
If you can contact HAL's Regional Director for your area, you should be able to get an answer.

Although I am not a bridge player, according the the HAL "Explorer" daily program, onboard my recent 14-Day Southern Caribbean cruise onboard the Maasdam, there was TWO DAILY sessions of bridge, at 10:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m., both occuring in the Hudson Room which is close to the Wajang Theatre on Deck 8, midship!

on our port intensive canada/new england cruise -- there wasn't anyone on board for bridge play organization or classes
instead there was a note in what is now called the Explorer daily program indicating that there was bridge play in the hudson room for those interested -- non hosted -- usually only in the afternoon
i looked in one day and there wasn't a soul there
there is no telling how it will be on your cruise

You can always check and see if your cruise has a Roll Call. Many times members of Roll Call find different game players and informally work out different card/game playing teams.

Having been quite active in our local duplicate bridge club for many years DH and I got ourselves certified by the ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) to direct and lecture on bridge on cruise ships and continued to do so once or twice a year for about ten years. Every cruise ship we sailed on with an itinerary of more than week had both duplicate and party bridge games on sea days with a morning lecture and afternoon games, both sanctioned ACBL duplicate and party bridge.
Of course there is a card room where interested players can gather informally at any time for all sorts of games. Usually there will be a signup sheet for those interested in bridge, chess etc. If you don't see one ask the cruise director for permission to place one in the card room.

When push comes to shove, organized bridge is played at times in one of the dining rooms. I can't remember if this has happened on HAL or not, but it has happened to us on at least six cruises.
