Tha'ts sweet - but why is she on her knees???

She's not on her knees and neither is he. You can't see it too well from the small photo, but the pix they sent me was larger and he is sort of bending over her and she is leaning back. I am so happy and excited for them.

Esme, uh , yes ... she is on both knees. He is on one knee -- "traditional" proposing pose. I supposed that, perhaps, she sank to her knees in shock?

Chimera and I are both so happy for Pam and her Captain.

We met Pam back in 2003 when we were sailing on the Maasdam with our family. She was GRM and we had a few small problems she helped solve. This was in November of that year and when we told her we would be sailing on the Rotterdam in December, she told us she was going to be on board at that time as a passenger. She said her boyfriend was a member of the crew and that she would look us up.

Well, when we boarded we thought we would ask the concierge to help us locate her. Before we could do that, she found us at the Suite Welcome Aboard Party. She introduced us to her boyfriend, Captain van Donselaar.

They are a lovely couple. We wish them a very joyus and wonderful future together as husband and wife.

The Captain, as Rev says, went down on one knee.....when she realized what was happening, she went down on her knees to meet him. She is a petite, very beautiful lady.

That is the photo that I received and think it sooooo romantic.
What a beautiful couple.

I keep looking at the large pix I have and I still can't see it. Better get the magnifying glass out and take a better look. :confused: Looked at it again and you know, you are right! Oh, these senior moments are happening more and more often. :eek:

I don't know either one of them, but I just love this picture!!! What a fabulous shot:) . My immediately reaction was "Aaaaaaaah" and my second was "why is she on her knees?";) So glad that's been explained. She looks so overwhelmingly happy. I don't even need the whole story. Thanks for posting!

I have a large screen and didn't ned a magnifing glass to see that Pam was on both knees and that Captin van Donselaar was on one knee.

He wasn't the captain when we were on the Oosterdam in 2004.

Captain and Pam were on Westerdam, had their vacation and then boarded Oosterdam about 7 or so weeks ago.

In March we'll be on HA and Oosterdam - both for the first time! It will be fun to give congratulations to the happy couple should the occasion arise!

Question, Esme, if you know. My Brother and SIL were very recently on the Oosterdam in mid-January and it was Capt. Mercer on the ship then. We assumed he left to go on vacation.

Is Capt. van Donselaar just on the Oosterdam temporarily and will Capt. Mercer be coming back? I am planning on booking this ship and was hoping to meet Capt. Mercer. :)

Captain van Donselaar and Captain Mercer will be sharing duties on the Oosterdam - when one gets off the other will get on. Captain van Donselaar leaves on his vacation around mid April I believe.

I understand that HAL is trying the 3 months on, 3 months off rotation with the Captains.

What a great picture!!! I can feel the love the love they have for each other oozing

through my screen. Hope he is still the capatain of the Oosterdam when I

will sailing on Oct 22nd. My congrats to the both of them and many blessings on

last summer on the Rotterdam transatlantic cruise. Captain Von Donselaar was filling in for Fred and officiated at our Renewal of Vows.
We felt so sorry for Jeroen, he truly had his hands full with all the mechanical garbage going on...and the weather! Every day at noon, he told us "unfortunately it's going to get vorse"...andi t did.
Pam got off in Amsterdam and his parents got on. What lovely people!

Thanks for posting the picture. Pam was our hostess a year ago on a trip to Hawaii and we really enjoyed her. She is a darling girl and so glad they are going to have nuptials soon. "Cruising Illini" living in Sarasota
