Assuming you weren't in the consensus that Oosterdam is a rust bucket?

Ralph and I were on her at the same time as Critterchick and as you can see from his photos, she is not a rust bucket. She is slegant and beautiful and I saw no rust or dreariness of any sort. Oosterdam is a beautiful lady!!

Joanie- you might remember I backed you up on another thread when someone said there was a "consensus" that Oosterdam was badly in need of a drydock. You differed in opinion with the OP on that thread.

I think you mean the thread posted just yesterday? The one where I stated she did not need dry dock but could do with some new soft goods?

Oosterdam is beautiful and in my opinion, which is not qualified, does not need a complete dry dock for refurbishment.

I did post the date of her next dry dock in that thread, but to me, she is gorgeous and definitely a beautiful and happy ship:)

Drydocks not only deal with "soft goods" but also below the waterline maintenance, engine tweaking and propolsion system upgrades/maintenance. I believe Copper 10-8 spelled this out very concisely earlier this month.

So yes - drydocks periodically are a necessity just as regular oil changes and maintenance are on ones car. And from my 3/5/11 cruise aboard that ship, the soft goods definately need some deep cleaning or replacement along with minor repairs on other things cosmetic. The almost two weeks should do the trick and she'll be spiffed up and ready to go. Did it ruin my trip? Of course not. That doesn't mean there isn't room for remediation though. If she was in that bad of shape, I wouldn't be on her again next year so I consider the current condition and the anticipated drydock SOP.

She'll be at the Esquimalt Drydock facility adjacent to the Canadian Naval Base in Victoria. If you are in the area, it may be worth a visit from a distance.

We were on the same cruise with Joanie and Ralph. It was a delightful cruise. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Have been on many others cruise lines, first time on Holland! The crew is the happiest!

Captain was awesome! His cooking class was like an hour with the Captain. Learned to make Dutch Pancakes AND we could ask tons of questions and he answered them. WONDERFUL!

Loved as you wish dining, free computer and culinary classes, afternoon tea, great food (we thought much better than RCCL), huge variety of classes if you want, or plenty of time to just relax! Even met a couple of ladies who travel with their husbands who are officers on the cruise. I felt so lucky to have met them and talked to them about their interesting life.

I too wish I were still there.

P.S. Joanie did an outstanding job for a wonderful Meet and Greet! Thanks again, we really appreciated it!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ursula, the 1st engineers wife that we were chatting with sent me an email yesterday, she and Andy made it back home to the UK safely. They will spend the next week with his folks and then he is off for training before returning to the Oosterdam in 7 weeks. She said to pss on how much she enjoyed chatting with you and I:)
