Received an email from HAL today re: Europe Cruise Sale. I guess it's a typo but I don't see any 16 day transatlantics from $799. Or does it just mean cruises from $799?

I got that email about a week or more ago. It was for a selected cruise that as of today has been sold out.

it's not a typo. it has been listed on the website and i've been eyeing it for a while. i suppose they're desperate now, as the cruise is fast approaching.

leaves ft lauderdale, finishes in civitavecchia--16 nights, inside cabin for $799/pp

the one finishing in barcelona was $799 as well, but for 15 nights instead of 16

Ah yes but are there actually any cabins available at that price. Seems like every time I bite on one of those ads the advertised price is no longer available.

We had looked into doing one of those 'cheapie' transatlantics, but since we live in the southwest, the airfare would have made the cruise no longer a bargain for us.

Can you imagine........

16 days for $799 ?

What kind of product can they continue to offer when they sell cruises for such prices?

Good for anyone who grabs it but in the long run ............

I can't say for sure what they are thinking, but...

Human nature is to jump on such a deal, and then rationalize that because you saved so much money, you can spend more money. My guess is that experience has shown them that it is worth getting people on board -- even at a loss -- because they will buy enough ancillaries to more than make up for the low fare.

An empty cabin generates no revenue!

And are these not usually repositioning cruises anyway? The ship has got to go so might as well get what you can....

With fewer ports stops on the re-positioning cruises, there is the savings of port fees for the cruise lines too that can also be part of passing on these savings to the passengers.

But they also lose money not running shore excursions and having passengers eating all their meals onboard during those at sea days too. Well, I am sure corporate accountants have this all figured out.

Looking forward to our first TA on the Maasdam this November and if the weather is not a horror show, they are certainly exceptionally well-priced cruising options.

i got one for that price a couple years ago. i paired it with a 12-day med cruise. almost as cheap as flying back to the states.

call them and find out.

I have some friends who were going to fly to Europe for a river barge trip, but they found a price of $899/person about a month ago for an inside cabin for the 16 night transatlantic on the Noordam, leaving Apr. 28. They got a cabin, so now they are cruising to Europe instead of flying.

Check out last minute one way plane tickets from Europe. That is a big explanation of why they have to discount so much for these trips. I live in NYC and the prices are more than the cost of the 16 day trip.

Sounds wonderful. Lucky them!!! :)
Hope they have a great time.

the 16-night ft lauderdale-civitavecchia is still available

even though HAL's website doesn't say so, initiating a booking leads to an inside cabin price of $649/pp

with taxes, etc the total fare is about $750/pp

airfare created an error code, maybe because of the timing. it departs thursday, april 28th

best per-day deal i've ever seen

The repositioning cruises are usually substantially lower in cost than other cruises of similar length. The line has to get the ship to it's new location, going empty would be more of a loss than selling the cabins cheaply.

My family loves the transatlantic cruises-- perfect time to relax and arrive in Europe already adjusted to the time change.
