Hi All,

The Statendam docked this morning in Huatulco, Mexico. Pretty much on time at 9.45. The past 5 days have been fairly smooth cruising, this is my very first ever cruise and I have not noticed any excessive movement aboard or experienced any ill effects.

To my own experience, obviously with nothing to compare to, the food for the most part has been fantastic, in the MDR. In the Lido I have had one meal which was close to cold even though it was a matter of minutes between getting it and eating it.

I have found all the crew that I have talked with or come in contact with to be fairly friendly.

I guess my biggest thing is that even though the Statendam was in Dry Dock for the Signature of Excellence upgrades, it does not appear this was all inclusive. There are still some area's which appear to be a little dated, and not touched. But all in all this does not detract from the overall understated elegance I feel in this ship.

Anyway, thought I would update on the progress of the cruise. I do have some photo's of my stateroom, which I will upload before the end of the cruise, and will get some photo's of other area's on the ship, for those who may not have seen the changes or would like to see what the Statendam is looking like.

Joel

Thanks for the update and taking the time to post. Sounds like the Statendam still needed some work?

Hopefully you enjoy the rest of your cruise.

Thanks for your report and assume you are on the same Statendam Panama Canal trip we took last year. Huatulco is a very low-key stop but one we enjoyed just to see this rugged coast and the slow development of this area. Had some great nachos sitting under the palapas on the beach looking at our beautiful home afloat.

If you are heading on to Puerto Chiapas, consider taking the Argovia Coffee Plantation tour. It was pricey but one of the best shore excursions we have ever taken. We are now even ordering our coffee directly from them and it still costs out okay even with shipping. It is a beautiful plantation, excellent informative tour, and needless to say wonderful coffee.
