View Full Version : Well, we did it! Went for an aft suite on the Oosterdam!

I can't believe I made the switch!
We had an aft VA for our upcoming Thanksgiving cruise on the Oosterdam and after hearing sooooo many of you proclaim your love for the corner S suites...I did it. Called the TA and secured the aft corner (5185 I think). It's a bit more money but I'm going to justify the expense somehow...and of course, not tell DH what I did until we get on the ship:p That way, it will be a nice surprise for him!
Since our trip is so far away, I'll just have to look at all your reviews and photos of the "O" until November.
Anyway, was too excited with this news and since I can't tell my hubby...well, I had to share with someone :rolleyes:

Good for you. This will be a great surprise. The S suites are very, very nice ... and you get the suite perks, too.

That's GREAT!
If it's on the Verandah (5th) Deck, then you'll be in either 5186 or 5187. 5185 is a VA cabin.

Good for you. I have booked S5185 for the Zuiderdam in March, I'll comment on my review of that suite, stay tuned.............

We will have 5187 on the Oosterdam for our October 8th cruise. We will miss being close to the Neptune but wanted to try the Aft corner just once:)
Congrats on getting the Aft Suite, our cruise is before yours so we will take lots of pictures and post them for you. Chances are you have our cabin 5187 if it is the corner Starboard side.

5185 on my diagram shows it to be an A (VA) catgory - delux verandah outside.

Ooops maybe they have 5187, we have both 5187 and 5185, forgot which one was the suite for me.

These are awesome suites! You will love them. We were in 5186 on Zui in April and were booked in 5187, again on Zui for October.
Enjoy your cruise and that awesome verandah. You'll feel like a rockstar :D

I have 4185 for Alaska in September (you can barely see it from Rev's pic)
Does anyone know what the big black machinery on the corner of my verandah is? Are those the running lights?

I THINK I've got a few good photos from aft the Oosterdam (approaching from port in a tender) which should show your verandah. I'll look at em, zoom in, crop, and post one, if you like.

i have booked a 4180 on 4th may looking forward to seeimnh the pics. have only shared an inside on nieuw amsterdam bewfore so this will be very different

Dave: Those spotlights, do they shine up? I was hoping to do some stargazing from the verandah at night...but if there's a great big beam of light...that may not work. :confused:

You go girl! I love it. Great surprise. We poked our head in a corner aft S when it was being cleaned (told the steward we were doing our due diligence for future cruises ;) ) It is massive and has a terrific view. Fun for you!

I was on the Zuiderdam and just l little observation. The Aft cabins with balconies have less privacy than those on either the starbord or port sides of the ship. Hope enjoy and don't get too much sun!!!

We just left 5187 hours ago. You will LOVE it!!! Wonderfully roomy and beautiful and OH!!! That veranda!!!!! We had not problem with it being open. The side veranda is approx 25-30 feet long and covered. Th main part of the veranda was open but NOT a problem.The only time we saw more than one or two people on a higher deck looking down was at sail aways. No big deal. Lucky you for being able to secure this cabin!:)
