The reason:

They want to charge me more

The official excuse:

I should use a local travel agent, pay in Euro etc

No more cruises with them!!!!

From the October 2008 cruise on the Westerdam? We sure enjoyed you and your friends and our day snorkeling in Tortola! How are you?

I was on the Westerdam with you and your friends as well -- enjoyed the M&G and trivia.

There have been several threads about the TA restrictions and how some have been able to get around them. Hope you can as well.

Are your friends joining you as well this time?

Have a great day -- hope you get to sail HAL again

Kind of like what the European rail lines try to do to Americans by forcing them to use Rail Europe so I feel your pain.

Kirk, I have booked all my European rail on the German rail website and paid European prices, not the inflated Rail Europe prices. Most recently we travelled from Zagreb, Croatia to Wuerzburg, Germany and then from Kitzingen, Germany to Prague, Czech Republic. Deutsche bahn even mailed my tickets to me in Canada for the routes that I couldn't print online, for a small fee. And the website is available in English.

If you're in Europe trying to use a North American TA, you're pretty much out of luck. HAL will only let you book North American prices with a North American credit card - if you can get of one of those, go for it ;)

Honestly, all the cruise lines have region rules like that. If you're from Japan, you're going to pay like 3x the amount an American would. Blegh.
