My wife and I have a guaranteed A cabin on the Volendam. Since A cabins are on 2 separate decks, I am wondering where the preferable location is for A cabins? At first I didn't really think there was a difference, but I'd love to get 1st-hand knowledge on cabins from those that have been on the Volendam. Again, as always, thank you for your help and expertise!!

Have not been on the Volendam but have been on her sister ship the Zaandam. We were in an A on deck 7, Navigation deck. Where we were there was a significant overhang from the lido deck above. I thought it was great because we seldom had direct sun on the verandah which is an advantage for me because I am so sun sensitive. I used the outside deck a whole lot. Many of our neighbors felt that the overhang encroached on their piece of the sky.

Others on this board have mentioned that when in port the crew are often doing practice drills with the life boats, or they are using the life boats for tendering. During these times the life boats are extended out from the side of the ship and can interfere with your direct view down of the sea, especially noticable from deck six, the verandah deck. This, however, is only relevent when in port and is not an issue at sea.

Only other comment is that on deck 6, verandah deck, the A cabins are all mid ships, wheras on deck 7, navigation deck they start at mid ships and go all the way back to the stern. We were in 7077 over Christmas, very close to the stern, but felt that the ship rode well even from that high up and that far to the rear. No noticable vibrations (cabin was very quiet) and no particular magnification of pitch and roll as compared to elsewhere on board, even in high seas. Those very prone to sea sickness may have a different opinion. I am prone to sea sickness but have cruised a lot and I have started to acquire my sea legs more quickly than I used to.

We were on the Volendam in December, and DD and her DH had an A cabin on the Navigation deck. They were very happy.
