The same announcement was made for Canadians yesterday. Although warnings were in effect, they have re-iterated it fearing reprisals

The same warning applies to those of us staying in the US.

This was very much on our minds while flying from Venice to Montreal yesterday. In Paris, after the plane was loaded, there was an announcement on the PA asking Mohammed Saad to please identify himself to the cabin crew. When he didn't they declared him a missing passenger and delayed the flight while they located and removed his bags.
We will be home later today and I am happy to not be in Europe at this time.

The idea of unaccompanied bags being left on a trans-atlantic flight makes cringe.

VERY happy to hear they were matching luggage to boarded passengers. We know they are supposed to but I've not always been sure they do that. Good for them!!
Travel safely, Sapper, and all who are on their way here or there.

That would be extremely unsettling. I'm wondering if European cruises will see reduced volume as some folks may tend to become more security conscious. We were on a Costa cruise , April 2010, Lauderdale to Quebec, when Iceland's volcano caused travel chaos throughout Europe, and certainly created some anxious days for the many passengers aboard the Atlantica who were planning to head home. That must have impacted cruise schedules as well.

i doubt it will have any impact, unless people get nervous and cancel their cruise. when people do that the terrorists win.

That I like to fly to europe, and take the ship back as all the whack-jobs seem to be going east to west, not west to east.
Also consider the south pacific...

We flew from Venice to Paris and then to Salt Lake City on Monday. We didn't even know about the breaking news until we were on the Delta flight to SLC. We left Venice at 5am so obviously didn't know when we left. We went through security three times in Paris and the last time were told it was because we were on a US flight. Not being frequent international travelers we thought it was just normal but a pain being searched three times. When we boarded the Paris to SLC light a flight attendant told us as they were told to be extra vigilant. When we got to SLC Utah we expected another big security check but that was the quickest one with US Customs. My husband just retired from US Customs and was talking to the agent who was questioning us and was told the extra security is in Europe and other countries to obviously try to prevent anything or anyone from getting on US home territory. In a way I am glad we didn't know until flight time and I am glad we are back and not just leaving on this trip.

There were already severe security measures to prevend people from flying to the USA. I have flown a quite a lot of times and the biggest problems with security is flying towards the USA. 2 Years ago I had the opportunity to see how great the security or weak the security in the USA itself is.
As we were leaving from our Europian airport a name was called to report himself. He did not report himself so his luggage was debarked. After a long flight I landed in Atlanta. I had 1.5 hours to catch my next flight as we were delayed by half an hour thanks to mister No Show. Offcourse I missed it because the US customs like to enjoy the feeling that they are in control and that you are teir slave. (At least as how I see it. Why is it impossible for a US customs officer to smile or be friendly at least. Whenever I come across a Europian customs they are at least kind of friendly)
So I missed my connection. No problem, strangely enough it happens more often that people miss connections in Atlanta. So I went to a special check-in desk to check if I could take the next flight. The guy behind the counter fills in my name and looks up. I quote:"Sir according to my files you are onboard the plane". Which is kind of strange in my eyes as the plane is already in the air. So nobody actually checked if I was onboard yes or no, while in Europe the plane was delayed by half an hour due to the fact that they had to know who was onboard.
So please do not complain about the customs and security measures in Europe. The only thing that has changed is that they now also check people with American passports.
Kind regards,
SeaSheep
