Our 12 day Alaskan cruise will leave us in Vancouver for about 14 hrs without a "home". We get off the ship early AM and can not fly out until late evening...thanks to airline cancelling our flight. There will be six of us with all our luggage to tote, etc. Does anyone know of any lodging available for the "day"? How about transportation from airport? We don't really want to rent a van for the day but may be forced to. Any prior luck with Holland America, Expedia or Air Canada in getting financial assistance? We hope that Air Canada will decide to put some transportation back on their schedule from Vancouver to Toronoto to Boston or Portland, Me.....without us having to wait 14 hrs!!!

Hi Dannie,

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

I don't know if you plan to "do" anything while you're in Vancouver, but if you are, I'd give the Hampton Inn down at the end of Robson (I think) a try. We missed our cruise (not our fault) and they were very accommodating until we could get to the next port.

Just tell them what you've said here and maybe you can rent a hotel room for the day. At least you'll be able to store your luggage and see something of the city.

If you don't want to see the city, try the airport hotels, they probably have a bit more experience with "long transfer" passengers.

I hope this helps.

This is a question that get asked a lot during the Alaska cruise season. Unfortunately to my knowledge there are no downtown hotels that offer day rooms. Your only chance would be to find a hotel that had a vacancy situation which is not likely during the prime summer season. But make a few calls to some of the larger hotels and you may just luck out.
